I just finished the build of my '32 Ford roadster. Flathead,'39 trans and a qc. I used a T spring in the rear for the q c. Drive it over to the gas station and filled it up. I now find I do not have enough space from the frame to the rear axle. It is bottoming out. I need to raise the rear a couple of inches. I was planning to pull the rear spring out and try to add some arch to each of the leaves. I have never tried this before. I guest my question is ,should a do all leave or are some more important than others. Thanks Terry
I would add a block under the spring where it bolts to the rear crossmember...Raise the ch***is up 2 inches and not change the ride at all....Might have to get longer shocks though...
To do it properly the leaves should should be stepped down. As in the main leaf to the second leaf should have, let's say, 1-1/4" gap between them when laid next to the second to the third should have strong 1", then a little less thru the whole stack. This makes each spring work holding its own portion of weight instead of 1 or 2 springs doing all the work. I've done easily over 100 sets of springs and this is the proper way to do it. They ride great and they last along time, again because all the springs are supporting the weight. Here is a pic of a small set I did a while back, notice the fit and spacing. The first pic is after I fit them, the second is the original spring the way I got them.
