Congratulations to the commuter in Austin! I drive mine to and from almost every day in Colorado Springs, rain, snow or shine. It's a 39 Chevy "hi-boy" coupe; "67 327, th350, 10 bolt, and a kick-in-the-pants. If you build 'em, drive 'em. COPCO
Well im building a 64 el camino 10 to 1, duntov 30-30 cam, 301, muncie, posi and i'm gunna be commuting 40 miles round trip
i used to drive my 57 to work every day, i got tired of the water coming through the floorboards every time it rained. so i set it aside to finish it.
I can't wait to get my heap running. I plan on doing the same. My daialy drive is 30 miles. I also get to drive trough downtown. I can't wasit to hear my pipes echoing of the glass buildings as I rumble trough downtown Dallas.
I have a 60 mile roundtrip and all I have is my 63 or my 60 truck. If one breaks I take the other, if both, I'm screwed. I've missed one day in almost 2 years due to failure and it was before I got the truck.
My '42 GMC (since sold) was my daily before my sons came along. I loved the feeling of hitting the time clock at the end of the day and knowing it was waiting for me in the parking lot. Hitting that start button on the floor and hearing the old 216 rattle to life, letting out the clutch, and then rolling on homeward was often the best part of the day. No matter how bad the day was, driving that old relic would put a smile on my face. Man I miss that truck...
After haveing visited this subject a couple of times inthe last few days i have come to a conclusion. Well I actually came to the conclusion today on my way to coffee while some old ass in a late model Lincoln tried to crowd me into oncomming traffic. When you drive one all the time its not near the treat to dive it as it is when you only drive it once in awhile. Well that and you run into a lot more idiots than you normally would. I mean give me a brake why in the world would someone in a nice late model car try and play chicken with some wierd lookin' dude in a loud, obnoxious, old beat up pickup?
Well said I take the 63 to shows a few states out and its a regular drive. I'm so used to it theres really no excitement left. I can't wait to get the 51 on the road so I can have a new thrill. Thats what its all about, build em drive em til the thrill is gone for you and pass it on to someone else, and start over again.
