in the early 90's, across from DETROIT/ METRO AIRPORT --[if memory serves me correctly]-- COMPLETE CARRIERS terminal which at one point was J.BOUTEL--set up a demolition depot for the 6 and 8 unit trailers. i stopped to see if they would sell ramps, THE ANSWER WAS NO! i found it unusual everything was sent to the 'recycler', EXCEPT the axle units. i was told that the axles were used for 'new fabricated' trailers, and the V.I.N. ----most were dated from the late 40's---- allow lower taxes. next time you 'share' the super-highway with one of those 8 [and as-many-as-10] unit behemoth carhaulers, wonder how many millions of miles and how many thousands of new cars that those axles have 'experienced'? WONDER WHAT ENGINE WAS USED IN THAT 4 UNIT HAULER? 'BETCHA' NOTHING LIKE THE 500+ HORSES UNDER THE HOOD OF THE HAULER IN THE RELIABLE CARRIERS HAULER IN 'THEIR' MAGAZINE ADVERTI*****T! i've 'heard' of 3-digit top end speeds of todays superhaulers. red ryder
Red, Did you think only Hot Rodders used old parts? Very common practice. Yes they will run 100 mph. Usually late at night when Smokey is at the Donut shop! Frank
