Needing something useful to do on my AV8 roadster build while on the mend. Had pieces of Model T running boards laying around and had to use them somewhere. Needed a battery box so I sort of got carried away! Cut them apart and welded up a battery box. Wondering how many of us have made something from "nothing" using unwanted parts or as the saying goes "repurposed" them.
Stainless fixtures and sheetmetal from the soda fountain/ restaurant 2 doors down from my biz. Lots of sheetmetal, 16-18G, I think. Some of it with diamond or pleated patterns. Stored outside, won't rust, thinking about mostly interior and underhood pieces. Several square feet without any flaws, free. Owner replaced it a few years ago, put the old stuff out back, after a couple of weeks, I thought I'd help him with his trash problem.
Pieces of a storm drain that got dug up behind my house. re purposed into a header flange. Find a piece large enough. Cut off everything that doesn't look like a header flange. Install.
Recycling at it's best! Found a single '33 Ford cowl light laying on the ground the day after a hoarder's auction. Converted it to 12v, now it's my trunk light.
I've posted this in the past in my build thread but I basically used something that would have ended up in the trash. I needed something to replace the brittle and broken turn signal indicator lens on the dash of the wagon. My cheap solution came while having lunch and noticed the container that the turkey was in had a green transparent lid. It worked perfectly. HRP
That box looks great...well done! I tend to do this "re-purposing" all the time. Only trouble is you become a s**** hoarder and never throw anything out...you might need it later! Here's a quick example
Cam drive gears repurposed as engine stand crank. I stole this idea from Roseville Carl here on the HAMB
Love repurposing old stuff. Used a busted up 409 valve cover for a different looking desk lamp. Cut down a 150 year old tree in my yard and finding nice pieces to use on projects. This one I made for my Uncle after we returned from an Honor Flight trip to Washington. He is a Korean War Vet and always talked about his Jeep. Got a picture from 1952 and another on our trip both with him standing next to an Army Jeep. Used the pictures, a diecast toy Jeep and my old tree to make him a little memory of his service and our Honor Flight trip.
I have been using a few old Model A splash aprons for patches on my coupe and a couple of other projects.
When I'm feeling creative, a walk in the plumbing and hardware section of Home Depot gets my head full of ideas.
I Used an old axle with bad king pin holes to make motor mounts for the stude motor in my A sedan and a drop out trans cross member. Both will be drilled full of holes when finished.
