    the million dollar question....
what if anything do you do to compensate for the main leaf getting longer(center of eye to eye)-
i'm doing my first build and just reversed my A spring (front.
it grew 1 3/4"- 2" after reversing to the same arch.... when it came time to install it seams that the shackles are in the wrong position???

$30 is better. Moore's Spring in Stockton, right near the fairgrounds. Mr. Moore put the main leaf in the forge, rolled out the eyes, then re-rolled them, then tempered the leaf.
He also provided NEW front reversed main leaf for Model A, (any length eye-to-eye; $25.)

I had him make me a pair of front main leaves for my '54 Ford g***er ('37 Plymouth tube axle) and he charged me $40 for the pair. Nice work, fair price.
Also has spring center bolts, 'U' bolts (any size) and various types of frame/spring hangers... in the phone directory.

Anyone know of a company that makes a 32-34 rear "curved" main leaf new with reverse eyes? I can have my local spring shop do it (Pohl Spring) but they want 150.00!!!

I just called David at Moore's Springs, was quoted $35 for a custom spring for my A. He wanted the eye to eye measurement and the arch measurement. One week to ship out.

    Just to add...

This technique can also be used just to de-arch springs.

Instead of buying dropped leaf springs for my 49 Ford Sedan, I de-arched them about 3 inches with a quick and dirty jig, and a bottle jack.

I did it with a piece of 1/2" rod welded to a 1' piece railroad rail and a #5 pound sledge hammer. Just started at one end motive the spring 3/4"to 1" at a time hitting it dead center between the welded rod and the edge of the RR rail. Took a while but was FREE.

Here's a little jig for reversing main leaves for those of you that don't have a big ol' shop press –
just bolt it to the top of your work bench.

    ^^^^^^. Now that is brilliant.
Have you posted this on the homemade tools thread ?
Does it work as good as it looks ?
How do you know how much pressure to apply, or is it just a case of trial and checking as you go ?
    Thanks

Yes, it works amazingly well. I usually just pump up the jack until it touches the spring and then give it 3 or 4 more pumps – you'll know what's right from the amount of resistance. My jack leaks a little, so results may vary.

And yes, I've posted it on the homemade tools thread. :)

My version...pin through center with indicator on it measures spring deflection..Bring to same amount. I did 1" spacing..Be sure after you make a p*** that you put the spring leaf on the floor and step on it to load it; you'd be surprised at how much of the bend you'll lose..

So when you de-arch how much impact does this make on the spring shackle angle?

o_O ...... ummmm' ...... soooo' do these jeans make my **** look big ??? Hell who knows man ? Shackle angle .... spring length .... number of leafs .... weight of car ..... alota' yada' ..... pinata.

Realistically, I wouldn't think shackle angle would change much, if any, over an eye reversal. You're just flipping the spring, and hoping to duplicate a reasonable facsimile of your original arch.

I am talking about de-arching the spring, man
Looking for input from someone who has done it
You can read all over the forum about shackle angle and what is thought of as the ideal angle

So, this is really reversing the arch of the spring, and not reversing the spring eyes. I always "thought" the eyes were "un-rolled" and "re-rolled" too. Impressive. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

The problem I've run into with doing this is, an original spring is 80 plus years old. I've seen quite a few crack from metal fatigue. I started getting brand new A & T Springs reproduced with reverse eyes a few years ago. Brand new 5160 rolled steel Made in the USA. Just my 2 cents
