Selling my Austin. It’s an authentic gasser from the mid- ‘60s. It’s titled and licensed for the street in California. It has been a race car since the early ‘60s but is currently capable of driving to local cruise nights, etc. I’ve never had it on the highway due to the slicks and vintage tires. It has been trailered to events in central California and was featured in Rodder’s Journal. I’ve tried to maintain the authenticity throughout my ownership but I have made some changes for safety reasons. No race history has been uncovered.
It’s an all steel 1948 body with the small headlights. There is no body rot anywhere and no apparent collision damage or repairs. The old paint has chipped off in many places but I resisted the urge to sand and primer them. It has plexiglass windows and most of the as-built interior, plain black Naugahyde with chrome garnish moldings.
It sits on the original Austin frame. The factory IFS was replaced with a chrome dropped tube axle with early Ford spindles, a transverse spring and aftermarket disc brakes. The roll bar was removed by a previous owner, I removed the stubs and patched the floor.
The narrowed Olds rear end is mounted to the Austin leaf springs on narrowed stock frame rails. The original square tube ladder bars have been removed to make room for mufflers but come with the car. I believe it has a 3.42:1 non-posi third member.
The engine is a 355” SBC with iron heads, stainless valves and a Comp Cams 292 Magnum hydraulic cam. It has old custom headers and a polished Offenhauser tunnel ram with two 600 cfm Holleys.
Recent additions: It has new American 5 spokes with the vintage tires, new Mustang master cylinder and pedal assembly, Vega cross steering, a new fuel tank and lines. I replaced the front floor and transmission tunnel due to the poor condition of the previous floor and to improve the driving position.
I’m asking $16,500 and I have all of the paperwork, current and in my name. Age and declining health are the main reasons why I decided to let it go now. I can provide any photos that you want. I’m not particularly interested in trades, I just need to reduce the amount of car stuff I have.
