Technical Really dumb 6/12 volt question

I'm running a 6 volt system on my 50 shoebox and it works just fine. No need to convert to 12 just yet BUT I do (think) I have a faulty temp gauge. I was wondering if anyone knew if an off the shelf 12v dum dum temp gauge would work on a 6 volt system. My gut tells me there needs to be some kind of voltage "boost" attached to the new gauge so it reads correctly.
    Thoughts?

No just get a reproduction temp gauge and sending units from an old Ford supply house. You have 2 sending units in series on the 50. Get both.

  3. Before you go changing parts have you found what's defective? Teflon tape on sending units are a common contributor to non working elect. gauges. Read that lack of Grounding.

Interesting theory Pistn. Thoughts on alternative ways to seal the senders?

  6. Well they are Pipe Thread so a clean sender and threaded hole should seal without anything added. Just tighten till they don't leak. The sender must ground to make the gauge work. Teflon tape will insulate the sender. To find the actual problem test the power side of gauge first. If it's hot remove the wire from sender side and jump to ground. If the gauge sweeps it's not the issue. Then hook it back up and go to the sender end of wire and ground it. This should tell you what's going on.
