I have that lower base including the upper piece for an early Z/28 or LT-1 motor... The upper lid has the AC-Delco ink stamp underneath..

  4. i see youve already got the corvette one on the way, but heres one i made for an off topic car that was super low profile, i took a regular dropped base, and hammered the **** out of it to clear the throttle body and cut about .5 inches off the bottom lip. then made the top from scratch. we milled the intake down too and it just barely made it without touching the hood.

  5. Going to be hard to get the optimum 3" between the air horn and air cleaner lid with that intake....

What about a stock intake with the Carter AFB?

  6. check with the people that make kits to put small blocks in pintos, vegas, and MGs and such.. stupid cramped spaces there...

Looks to me that you could gain about two inches or more with a early Corvette intake. That "Hi Riser" intake you have on now ain't what Anderegg used, in fact I don't remember seeing those before the late '60's.

intake looks like a victor to me from what I can see. check out edelbrock torquer or performer if youre not already running one.

Coupla things...GM made in the ,80's, roughly, a Q-jet-Holley type lid with a hose fitting to connect a cleaner elsewhere. I think maybe early turbo Buick?? I have one somewhere. Runnit to firewall, air cleaner tucked behind dash?
The low drop is not a problem area. You can get way deep OEM bases, cut off the edge, and add a shiny top to get wnough filter area, BUT be aware that a low lid on an aircleaner can disrupt venting and intake flow and cause lots of mixture problems. Use every spec of al***ude you have there, and since it will be low no matter what, road test with and without the cleaner on to see if there is a detectable problem,

You can get a low enough air cleaner "off the shelf", but in my experience trying to get as low as I could with an off the shelf drop cleaner, the limiting factor was the choke ***y. on the carb.

I was under the hood and operational with a Barry Grant no choke carb, but I ran out of room with any carb with a choke.

Well I think it may actually work. I dont want to butcher up the original vette bottom (as it is not made for a Holley). So Im going to fab me up one and in the process off set the whole air cleaner forward 1/2 inch in case I stick with the HEI.

Oh, and this is with an Edelbrock Performer intake as it is a full 3/4 inch lower than the single plane I had milled.

I know it is a little late in the game now, but if you need another suggestion, when my late father faced a similar situation on our family's Ardun powered 48 Mercury, he went a little unconventional with a Harley air cleaner. Works great and looks pretty good too if I do say so myself...

Several cars ago I had a little '24 T with a Volvo engine with SU carbs mounted on the side. It was extremely close to the hood side panel but I finally solved the problem by going to a small engine repair shop and looking through their supply of lawnmower/small engine filter elements. When I found a shape that I thought would work I fabbed up a sheet metal frame for it and voila! air filter. Maybe not the prettiest solution but it worked.

Modifiy the air cleaners used for corvairs. They are mad to drop down to the side into in open area. Not sure how much clearance it will take but it might work and the ones on a early 'vair would look almost period! LOL

Anybody found out about the dual side draft set-up pictured? I'm thinking two sets on a 2x4 intake would look killer!

Not absolutely sure about them being Webers or Dellortos. On a previous SBC powered car I ran a very similar looking setup on top of a B&M Blower. They were Dellortos and basically made a very tuneable four barrel.
I seem to remember that it came from Street & Performance in Mena, Arkansas but that's not for certain. I know I had S&P make me a set of aluminum air cleaners for it. They were about 10-12" by 6-7 inch rectangles and looked pretty decent. I have a picture of the engine around here somewhere if it needs to be seen.

There's two sets on Egay right now for $1,500. Use one and sell the other set. They are actually shorter than shown. Looks like the adapters say B&M on them.

    I'd post a link, but I don't think I'm supposed to.
