rear axle guru needed! what is it?

    any ideas? its some sort of bottom loader.

    I think Studebaker wrecker is where I saw one but I think it had full floating hubs [3/4-1 ton]...

    Packard ,36-38 era. A friend of mine had a 37 in his shop for several months ,had exact same axle.

    Wow, I would have thought that those brakes date much later?

    According to this http://auto.howstuffworks.com/1932-1939-packard-twelve3.htm Packard started using hydraulic brakes in 1937. The Packard used Bendix rather than Lockheed brakes and that might be what makes the design look newer than it is.

    Scrap ! Unless you can find a Packard guy ,ratios in the mid 4s.

    Just don't put it under anything you're driving: guys'll think you broke something and wound the housing up!
    Gad, that thing's ugly. (looks like the 3rd member got drooped in a fire...)
