...I have a couple GM 10-bolt rear ends that have the plastic breather vents broken or missing,...are these available like at a NAPA parts store...or at a GM dealer?...or? This is one thing I've never seen brought up on here. ...has anyone made one of these? I spect they are used as a breather and to keep water out. Thanks
You could make a pretty trick one out of 1/8" soft copper tubing.(Or 3/16")Use a br*** 1/8 pipe fitting to screw into the housing,& get a br*** ferrule/nut arrangement for the tubing. Coil the tubing around a deep socket a few times until you're happy with the diameter & tighten everything up.Allow for suspension/body travel.
Thanks guys, that was fast! I mite try to make something just for the heck of it.; but nice to know NAPA has em.
I've also drilled out housing and threaded in 1/4" hose/pipe thread ****** with a little thread sealer(be sure to trap drill shavings with grease on bit/wash out before refilling. This allows piece of hose suspended above axle height/venting.
This is a Ford 8 in--but I drilled a 3/8 bolt and use it as a brake hose/rear axle vent pipe--then super-glued a G.M. plastic vent into it---looks good and works good. The vent is in the upper left in the pic.
i've got some metal screw-in ones left over....donate 12bucks to the site and shoot me a mailing addy and i'll get 'em in the mail. (threaded 1/8" pipe threads)
Tap the hole and put a fuel line fitting in it. Run some flex gas hose to a remote location on the frame rail and put an inline fuel filter in the end of the hose. Orient the fuel filter direction so it will vent.
