Working on the rear brakes on my 35 ford. 35 drums. 40 hydraulic backing plates. Im wondering of anyone has removed the flared over wheel studs so the drum is seperate from the hub. The centre of the drum spigots over the hub anyhow to keep the drum centred so wondering if it were possible to remove the studs then weld in studs to the hubs to make drum removal and brake adjusting/maintenance easier then pulling the whole hub. Just a thought. Have done it in late 50s mopars so just curious on experienced people thoughts

Yes it’s probably been done, but I can say it isn’t common practice. You are likely to bend the center of the drum when pressing it off the hub register. I’ve removed a few 40 drums that were no good, and I’m not sure how I’d do it if I wanted to save the drum too.
