Rear Brakes on a Banjo

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by voodoo, Jan 29, 2004.

  1. Posts always come up on front brake swaps but what about the rears? Getting ready to put a 47 open drive into my 40 banjo and was wondering what if any were the options. I would prefer to change it over to a Bendix type. I know where there are some 53-6 F-100's and a post war Lincoln. Or should I just keep the 40's. Thanks for any help.

  2. Well, I ***ume youve not converted to late-style splined axles, so the tapered axles are going to dictate what youre doing. Youll be limited to the 12"ford/lincoln drums so youll need 12" brakes with shoes 1.75" wide(or 2" with Lincoln drums). The 12" bendix '39-48 Lincoln or the ?-? F-250 backing plates with narrower shoes will work, but its prolly not worth the trouble. I just stick to the '46-48 ford floating Lockheed style in back with Lincolns in front for mine.

  3. Thanks Homer. I'll prolly get those Lincoln brakes then.
