I have a 1939 Ford Sedan....the diff was changed out years ago
Has parallel leafs with a ?????? rear end......pepper tree install !!!!
Want to go back to the orig style with the buggy spring...
    SO ????
I****ume any 36 to 40 Diff and Torque tube will fit ???
    BUT ??? Will a 41-48 Diff also fit ???
    If not ??? Why ???
I found a rear end on Craigslist, has juice brakes on it
But not sure of the year.....
Is there a measurement I could have them check,
Or some clue that would pin it down.....
BEFORE I make the drive to go and look ?????
Help an old guy out here....I used to know all this stuff !!!!
But now lucky to find my car keys !!!!!

The wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface of the rear brake drums is 59 1/2 inches for a 1940 Ford.
I know the article above says 59 1/4 but I measured and got 59 1/2 in.
The OEM 1939 Ford rear will have the "wide five" bolt pattern on the drums. The 40 does not.
If possible, join the AAA club near you and glean info. from a person with a 39 Ford sedan. Also, the rear leaf spring count may be different for a sedan and a coupe.
Give this fellow a call.. http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=165622&highlight=1940+ford+rear+end

1942 up rear is also wider than 1940 down

  7. '42-'48 rears are 1-1/2" wider unless you go with a wheel with a deeper offset you might have some interference. '36-'41 are the same width.
