hello again this is my first post on the main board. I have a 1951 chevy deluxe that i am putting a lq9 with 340 hp i have a lincoln versailles rear end. a guy here in vegas at a differential shop said the rear end cant handle the engine any suggestions on what rear end to use
9" Ford, 12 bolt GM, Dana 60, etc. Here's a helpful chart that will give you common widths so you can see what's close to your '51 rearend. http://www.carnut.com/specs/rear.html
it will handle your engine no problem.. i have run a 58 ford 9", 28 spline, for 11 years, only problem was a leaky axle seal after 6 years. I run a 400hp sbc with 700r4. Hope this helps.
Lincoln will work, 1951 chevy track was 58.75", does your diff guy want to sell you one "more" suitable? an 8" will handle 340hp on street tires.
Versaille rear end is a 9" and it will easily handle that HP level, especially since you will never have enough tire on that Chevy to hook up hard enough to hurt that rear end. I'd look for a more honest shop.
Probably just wants that rear end for one of his projects. Did he offer to buy it off of you or give you credit for it towards something else? I am curious what rear end he thinks would be stronger. Find a different shop.
It still would hold up just fine. If anything, better. The numerically lower the ratio, the physically bigger the pinion gear is, and vice-versa.
There are guys putting more power than that through weak 10 bolts in a lot of camaro/s10/etc. This guy is pissing on your leg and telling you it's raining. separate, but more important, what springs are you using? stock springs will wheel hop terribly and really f*** s*** up. especially if you add lowering blocks to the mix.
thanks for all the help guys . I kinda thought the same thing just new to the game. i appreciate all the help
