Rear end offset ?

Can someone explain the reason for rear ends to be offset? Is it because of torque and the rotation direction of the motor?

mostly because of the pinion location and manufactuers only wanting to make one length axle shaft to keep costs down

 

Are you talking pinion offset from the center line or the third member housing off set from center?
