Rear end replacement?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Gas Stove-bolt, Sep 17, 2013.

  1. I'm replacing a Pro Streeted rear end with a full size axle. The frame was narrowed with tubs to fit the tires and 4 linked. We are going to put air bags in. So, here is the question??

Do we have to extend the frame out for the shocks? Is there a width for the bags/shocks to axle we have to stay with? All the suspension is between the tubs, does the 4 link have to go out to the ends of the axle?
Sorry if this doesn't make sense.

We are trying to do this without putting a new frame in. The rear frame section was very well constructed.

    Any help would great
    Thanks

Put the bag mounts and shocks on the outside of the narrowed frame rails. Shocks closer together at the top than the bottom, at about a 20º angle.

Not a super-ideal setup, but it will work.

thinking of something like a sprint car torsion arm setup modified with air bags ....
the long arms could reach out to mount to the axle in the area where a normal spring or bag would sit... also if designed right you could run a wide *** wheel with a deep inset if wanted..
