Does anyone have a definitive list of early Ford Spring perch centres, please? I have tried a search, but have come accross conflicting info. I am sure there must be a concise guide out there somewhere... I am not interested in unladen spring widths etc at this stage, just perch centres for the different years/models. Thanks Mark
I've got a ‘40 banjo with a model a spring mounted behind the axle in my '29 coupe on model A frame, but am looking into spring options for the Winters V8 Quickcange I plan to fit. I need to weld the perches on to the QC, but can’t get them wide enough (because of the axle hubs and recessed brake backing plates) to match the rear end that is in the car. I guess I need to find an alternative spring, so thought if I could match my perch spacing to something else I could go from there. Hence, I would like to find a list of what cars/rears had certain perch spacings and I can set mine at the nearest and then try to find the spring to match. I have a lead on a model T spring if that gets me anywhere (they look narrower than the A from what I have seen). Trying to get my head round it…..
Might help to add rear into your original post. Fronts are very easy to find. I do agree a list of rears would be very handy not sure what’s going to be narrower than an A for your set up you just posted. I’ve put T springs on stock A rear ends before with zero trouble.
Here is some old info I've held on to for decades, I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the dimensions listed.
In my ch***is business I have done quite a few Winters and 9 inch rears with either Model A (QC) or 40 style (9 inch) buggy springs. I have always used a narrowed spring from Posie that uses a 44.5 inch perch center. On the 56 inch width rears it puts the perchs about 3 inches from the end of the housing which clears 90% percent of the wheels used today.
Thanks. 45.1/2” is the maximum I could go on this casing, so what you suggest looks about the best option.
