Projects Rear end swap 49 Chevy

Hello this is my first post me and my grandpa are building a 49 Chevy putting a 80 Camaro rear end redoing the suspension 350 sbc and a 4 speed. But yesterday we put the 1980 Camaro 10 bolt rear end in and the left driver side of the rear end fit but the right is about an inch off where the ubolts go. It sits on the leaf springs and the brackets we put in to hold the leaf springs has an offset so I’m going to rotate the brackets around and see if that will give us the space. I’ve seen some things the 49 Chevy 4 door you can only fit a 60 inch rear end and the Camaro rear end is 61 or 61.5 I believe if rotating the offset brackets it might give me the extra inch inch and a half I need and if there is no fix what would be a alternative solution to make this rear end fit or is there no way to make it fit?

First thing is find a different rear end. s10 rear works. Camaro are to wide.
Second thing is don't use Camaro front clip either. Again to wide.

 

No. Find a Nova or Regal ,Cutl*** , Monte Carlo from late 70's to early 80's some thing with close to same as original. Otherwise you will have weird offset wheels to fit in wheel well.

 

Something about 58 inches wheel mount to wheel mount. Weld perches to center on springs.

55-57 Chevy bolts right in these cars as well.

 

Four wheel drive S10 or Blazer is the correct width and plentiful. Earlier ones will have drum brakes and late models have disc brakes. I have a 2003 one with disc brakes in my 50 but I also have a modified c notch to clear the calipers.

With all rear axles except the 55/57 Chevy car axles you have to cut the spring seats off and weld on new spring seats in the proper location to sit on the springs. You cannot use the original spring seats in their original location and expect it to work.

With the 55/57 axle you have to drill holes 1-3/4 inches in front of the original holes in the pad to center the axle in the wheel well. If you have the old axle with the spring mount still on it you can flip it over and measure from center of bolt hole to center of axle to get the exact distance.
