I have a front spring out behind the axle on my rpu... It's an original spring from around 42-48... It's 38" eye to eye and I have the mounts at 42.5 due to reading a post from Brian Bass.. I don't know if the spring is weak/worn out but it's sitting to low which could be remedied with a spacer and moving the rear crossmember.. But the shackles are to far down.. Going to a spring shop tomorrow but thought I would gather more info before I went.. Here is where it sits as of now.. Taking the spring out tonight.. But thinking if I narrow the spring by about 1.5" that would get the shackles back up where they need to be.. One question is if I narrow it and don't put more arch in it the truck will sit lower if I am thinking correctly.. But I don't believe I would need and 1.5" more arch though Thoughts.....
In the picture your shackles are just about at the right angle under a load. I like to have them at about a 45 degree angle which helps control side sway. Are you satisfied with the ride? I might be inclined to add a spacer to raise the car or just have the spring re arched and not shortened.
The ride seems to be a little soft and I'll have to check the angle of them when I get home.. I know I put the main leaf in Then the rest of them on. When I do it that way I don't have to stretch it at all it's almost a little long.. I might cut the one leaf (one above the main leaf) that I currently have out and reinstall it. And your adapter worked pretty well for the T-5 thanks again!
Shortening the spring will make it a little stiffer and so would raise the car a little. The shackles will angle out to the insde some more so that will raise the car some more.
Shackles look about right to me, I have put a spacer on several springs on Model A's, not a problem just a steel plate with an alignment hole and pin. Tire clearance looks about like what I have on my Sport Coupe, and My avatar had about the same clearance.
The tire/fender relationship really looks good to me. I went through this with my cabrio. To soft, to low. I Added a short leaf which helped maintain some of the arch plus raise the car up. I did add a spacer at the same time.
I would drive it a little and see if it changes angles.. If it doesn't I would drive and enjoy it like it is...
Needs to be closer to 45 degrees. You can have the spring shortened (just had one done for $20) or have the arch in the spring increased (or do it yourself), or add a leaf or two.
