I have a 1952 Chevy Deluxe. Going to swap out the rear end and keep the leaf springs...at least for a while. It appears that the mounts to the leaf springs are forward of the axle. What are my options for mounting the new rear end? I have found some mounts on Speedway but they are centered on the axle. Are there offset mounts? Can I use the 'centered' ones and mount the axle back on the leaf springs? Or am I stuck fabbing up my own? Thanks for the help.
It would be nice if we could have some advice posted. I have the same issue and would like some guidance. Thanks.
My 38 Chevy has stock springs also, all the early Chevys had the rear ends forward of center. I made 2" lowering blocks and offset the center pin 1" , that was all it took to center it, or you can drill a 2nd hole in the spring perch on the rear end you swap in. Pretty simple fix
YAY....some info I can pass along, does this mean I'm not a noob anymore!?!? Seriously, though..... What type of rear end are you putting in it? 2nd Gen Camaro, S10, 55-57 Chevy? I used a Posi disc rear from an 81 Trans Am, the perches are really wide, because the leaf springs on the original car were much wider than on my 50 Styleline Deluxe. I didn't have to buy new perches, just move the pin hole 1.75" forward on both the perch and shock mount plate (shock mount plate required some modding to accept shocks mounted in the original spots) and you should be good to go. I had to use some shims to raise the pinion 3 or so degrees, but it was easy sleazy. If you're going with an S10 4x4 rear, I believe you *will* need to move the perches. That may necessitate new ones if the old ones get destroyed while removing them. 55-57 Chevy is a direct drop in as well, I believe. Let us know what type of rear you're looking at, then we can better help you.
I am using a 1984 Monte Carlo rear. It has some sort of 4 link mounts and perchs for coils. Was gonna hack all that stuff off, mount some leaf spring perches.
