Ok so here goes, again. Do I need to replace the side seals also? The ones with the pins,or do I just leave the old ones in and coat everything with RTV? I'm tryin to get this together before it gets dark out so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You need to replace the side seals. They usually come with the new seal. They need to expand when they soak in oil to help seal the sides.

Good luck. Don't forget to clock the seal halves, put a little dab of sealer on the seal ends, and put sealer on as much of the exterior joint of the rear cap from the outside as you can.

Clock the seal halves? What does that mean?

Put the seal half in the cap with one end sticking up about 1/8 above the edge. Do the same on the opposite side on the block half. This will put the joints of the seal at a different location than the joint of the main cap.

Oh, and don't forget to put the seal in correctly. The straight up side of the lip towards the engine, the angled side of the lip towards the rear. Put a little grease on it too.

Well it went together great, just gotta put pan on yet,I had a lot of cleaning to do before I did the job. I took the oil pick-up out and there was a thick layer of semi hard **** on the bottom of the oil pan,so I s****ed it all out and cleaned the screen, made a new cork gasket and she's ready to go for tomorrow. Can't wait to fire her up again, hopefully the there's still a little clutch left to go for a ride, that'll be my next job,a new clutch disc,so if anyone has one laying around that's any good hit me up. Thanks again streetdreams
