Thinking that my stock rear Model A spring might be shot. I don't really have anything to compare it too though. Has anyone switched from a stock rear Mod' A spring to Posies version of the rear Mod' A spring? Did you notice a big perforance difference? Was there a noticable difference in ride height or anything? If anyone has input, please p*** it on! Thanks! Scooter
I switched mine on my roadster... the rear seems to be a lot softer not quite as harsh or hard what every you want to call it... as far as lowering the car I can't really say because I Z'ed the frame and never tried it in the stock location... if I remember right the guys at posies said it may lower the car a couple of inches? BE CAREFUL when you change the springs be sure and clamp it or use one of those Model A spring spreaders... just don't unbolt it and hit with a hammer because the spring will come out of there like a grenade and take you head off!!!
Yeah, I've got the tricks down for spring compression and removal. Those springs are such a pain in the rear (no pun intended)! In my case I would be comparing a direct swap with a "stock replacement". No change in height. I'm just concerned that even the springs that are considered "stock" might be lower. It matters big time with how I have my rear suspension set up.
Hey there, Posie's makes a nice spring. I have them in the front and rear of my T modified. I have been to their shop several times as I am fairly local to them. I would suggest calling their shop to speak to one of their service reps, as they are very acomidating. ..Geez...they should put me on the payroll for that adverti*****t...seriously..good people over there
I tell ya' what man! I've been dealing with "Chris #1" for my front spring and next week I'm going to do a public "thank you" to them! They have been such a huge help! I wish they were more involved here. They are actually a member of the HAMB, but they don't really post. Probably lurking, maybe even reading this thread. They really have been helpful though. HOWEVER! I always like to ask the general public for their experience. Less bias, if you know what I mean. So far my front super slide spring has been great! The quality looks great as well! I haven't had it on the road yet because things are still in the build process, and in fact I'm replacing the front spring with a different posies model (sits higher), but dimensionally it's held true to what they said it would be. I'll do a post on that next week though...
I have had a few of them in my 32 and all in the same car. It settles slowly after a few years. I ended up doing a combo spring and using some original leaves. What wrong with the original spring?
Nothing is wrong visually with the spring, in fact I like it so much had the eyes reversed to get the car right where I want it. It just seems a little soft, but I don't have any shocks on it yet either. I would RATHER use the original one if I can. It's perfect. Just not sure what it's going to do when I actually get it on the road. Anyone actually have an original FAIL?? Horrible thought...
I would definitely recommend that you get some shocks on the car and then decide. My A coupe didn't have any when I got it, what a bouncy ride! I rebuilt a set of stock hydraulic lever shocks for the back and put a set of tube shocks up front when I installed the mild drop 32-36 front axle- BIG Difference. I am using Posies reverse eye stock springs front and back and am very happy with them. Transverse spring failures are ugly. I lost one on a 79 Corvette a few years ago and will NEVER leave a used spring on anything I redo ever again.
Yeah, I don't blame you! Scary for sure!! How much was the reversed eye rear spring supposed to lower it? Mine technically is lowered because of the reversed eye as well. No dearching though. Still stock except for the eyes. Here's why the configuration is critical in my case: Great tip on the shocks. I will get them set up before I make any kind of decisions on spring purchases. They are knee action shocks and will be mounted pallel to the spring with the arms pointing out towards the wheels. Just need to get the mounting plates fabbed up. Tons of ch***is work going down over the next month or so.

start of weld after a little grinding tops side done now on tho the bottom and ad a few gusset's.. I was thinking of putting a few speed hole's in the topside of the cross member, maybe 3 on each side does anybody think this will lessen its strengh..
The "standard" Posies Model A spring is actually narrower than stock. Designed to fit spring perches 46" on center. If you want the stock width then you have to be specific. Also, the Posies spring has a different profile. More of a horse shoe shape. I'm not sure it will work with your 4 bar set up. You can buy new replacement springs from Snyder's and the other Model A parts houses. And there is a company that specializes in Model A and Model T springs. I have both a stock Ford and a Posies standard Model A spring in the shop. PM me if you would like a picture of them side by side.
"Stock" parts for installing the spring can be had through Snyder's, and probably other places that specialize in OEM style replacement parts. Also you may note that there are different springs for different cars, as in the number of leafs varry. I don't remember what the difference is but Tudor's and trucks used a heavier spring, and roadsters had lighter ones.

Spring mounts can be obtained from the places mentioned as well as SoCal speed shop. www.est1946.com Speedway should have them also though. Not sure why you didn't find them. I'm about 99% sure they have them. I'm running into an interesting proble with mine actually. I willhave to modify the clamping blocks so they don't sit up so high (or hang down so far, depending on how you look at it) and then the u-bolts will have to be shortened accordingly. They hand down too far and look like ****. Detail are important...
Don't really have an answer to your question, but as an option to Posies you can get springs custom made at Eaton Spring. I had them make a custom reverse eye T spring with rolled ends for my 34 to which goes with the quickchange better than an A spring. They will make them with whatever eye, 1" taller or lower or whatever. It was nice to have someone knowledgable build exactly what you want, in a little over a week. Thanks man! Good stuff! There is a really good spring place down here, Deaver Spring. In fact I've been meaning to do a spread on their shop for the HAMB. Super traditional spring makers. Still have some belt driven equipment in the shop. Awesome! I guess I'll just have to see what happens when I put some shocks on. Maybe it's not as bad as I think. 77 year old spring still hangin' in there... sorta' makes me nervous though. I think I should AT LEAST replace it in the next couple years if not right away.
