I want to install some rear lap belts in the 56. I dont think this will be all that hard, but wanted to see if any of you have done it. Is there possibly factory holes there, since they were an option then? I looked briefly the other day, didnt see any under the car. If I dont have factory holes, how far apart should they be? Not sure if I should put 2 or 3 back there. I have the factory rear bench seat. What length would be correct? From some research it sound like a 60" would be about right. last question, should I buy the anchor plates for them, or just fab something up to save that cost?
I've bought and installed several sets of seat belts from Juliano's. They are excellent quality and of the right "look" for our vintage cars. They can help you with proper lengths, spacing, etc. to fit your application. They also have the large anchor plates which I highly recommend. You might not ever need them, but then you just might... Better to have them and not need them, than to need them and not have them. My $.02 Good luck!
Sounds good, julianos is where I was looking to purchase. Any thoughts on factory holes, or poking my own. 2 or 3 belts across the bench, spacing, etc...?
I don't think there were any factory seat belt holes, so you'll need to drill your own. The spacing that Juliano's recommends is around 17 inches, as I recall. That seemed kinda wide, so I spaced my front seat belts at 15 inches and am pleased with the way they look and feel when they're being worn. I'm not really the right guy to ask when it comes to rear seat belts, though. I don't plan to put any in the rear seat of my Vicky. Nobody ever rides back there so they'd just be in the way.
Well with 6 grandsons (none are drivers yet. . .there IS a God!), I expect a few of 'em will be wanting to ride with Grandpa. So we're putting belts in the back for them. I'll get some pics of the setup this weekend.
HA - you's guys are funny! Not 6 belts. The kiddies will definitely be taking turns. Imagine, a 80+ degree day, some ice cones and a few cotton candies. . . = early grave for me -or fewer grandkids! Two seatbelts in the back. That number fits the seat - and my tolerance level - best. Funny, funny people, I love this place.
Yeah you must be building a different type car than me, I have 3 kids (also early grave), none of which will have sno cones or cotton candy in the back! Course, they may not like the feeling that stroker motor gives you when the light turn green
I didn't make it over to John's shop this weekend to get pics of the seatbelts. But Monday is exhaust sytem install day - we'll be with the car at the shop so I'll take some pics then and post 'em soon as I can.
Here's under-car pics of rear seat belt install, it should give you a perspective of where the they're located. I didn't get measurements but will get some topside photos:
Ron, your the man! Thanks a lot. Your cars coming along great, mines not as clean under the bottom as yours . Again thanks, I think I can make it happen from here. The sharing of knowledge is a wonderful thing.
Thanks. John (Streetdreams) is doing the work on my car, it's clean cuz it's been basically been a 'frame-off' job, started in summer '07. Not an inexpensive project for sure but no regrets. It's gonna be worth it. Hope the pics help.
btt, im about to do the same. i figured it is time. does anyone make any with a 50-59 emblem on them by chance?
I put in 3 in front and 3 in back. We stuff the car with kids on cruises and ice cream cleans up fine on the vinyl seats. Here are some pics of where I drilled the holes. I used the frame bolts on the sides, because the locations seemed perfect.
hard to tell from here, but shouldnt there be 3 or 4 threads sticking out past the nut? looks like its flush to me, but i need gl***es and no, that isnt a wink at the end, thats me trying to bring my vision in focus. kinda like ;( with my arms extended
looks good, i ordered my seat belts thru macs a week ago and still havent gotten them. They look to be pretty easy to install
That looks great ! If you are worried at all with the threads being at the end , just put some RED thread locker on it and it will stay right where it's at . Jim
