Just pulled my rear shocks off my 60 chevy c10 (and foolishly threw them away). I lowered the truck 3" using the LMC 3" drop springs. I ordered these ebay shocks for 1960-1972 trucks with a 3" drop.....so they should be 3" shorter than stock shocks. However, when I install them, they are fully extended when the truck is sitting on the ground. That's not right is it? Also, shocks for a 60 and a 65 aren't the same are they? Thanks in advance!
Shocks should not be fully extended when the truck is resting on the ground. I used the stock shocks for my C10 with the 3" lowering springs. Shocks for these series ran 60-62 and 63-66. You may want to consider looking at Classicparts.com for parts. I have had much better luck with them. Nice truck BTW
Why not simply make a measurement from the upper shock mount to the lower shock mount as it sits on the ground. You can take this measurements to any custom shop that sells lowers shocks and they should be able to match the ride height measurement to match what you need. This way you get enough up and down stroke on the shock and you aren't topping it out and cursing the ride quality. This is how I have my customers with air suspension get me the info I need in order to get them the right shocks with the kits after they purchased.
Another thought. When these trucks are lowered with a shorter spring, the shocks which were already angled front-to-back really start to "lay down". Because of that, the truck shops also sell relocated shock mount sets to stand the rear shocks back up a little. The drop shocks that you bought may be based on the assumption that you have the new mounts.
This may help, I just went down this road last month. Stock C10 - Monroe # 34803 Ext. length 21.00 / comp. length 13.25 / travel 7" Lowered 3" - Monroe # 34904 Ext. length 18.125 / comp. length 11.75 / travel 6" Monroe #34904 (1965-1966) Ford F100 4x4 / same L1 5/8 mount as stock C10 shock mounts.
