Is there a leaf spring that mounts behind the rear axle that will work with a model a rear crossmember? Looking at pictures I thought maybe a 32 but someone told me it has an offset bend on the top.

32 won't work. Model A or Model T is what you're looking for.

Can I spread the A spring enough to the rear spring mount's on the 40 rear end?

If you are using a Model A frame you will have to extend it to move the rear crossmember rearward about 8" . Otherwise you will be shortening the wheelbase by a like amount. This would also be a great opportunity to step the rear of the frame to get the car lower.

I could be wrong on the amount to extend the frame but I am sure someone will correct me if my memory is off.

I read somewhere 7 3/8. I was going to extend the frame right before the middle crossmember where the frame starts to get wide.

This is a pretty*****py photo but it shows a good way to step the frame right in front of the rear crossmember. Again I apologize for the photo.

The 32-34 rear springs have are curved back to front, i.e., the eyes are forward of the center bolt. Unique to 32-34 only. Not much use on anything else.
The T and A springs are arched to fit properly inside the A rear crossmember though the T spring is narrower in cross section than the A.

Yep. Did mine 7 3/8" and my wheelbase and tire alignment with the fender are dead on. If you look at my build thread I combined the stretch and the Z together.
