Is there any way to adapt a mustangII power rack to a rear steer system? We had no idea it was rear steer when we installed the flaming river part and now of course we are stuck with it.......any advice would be great. Thanks
Flaming River and Unisteer both make rear steer Mustang II rack and pinion ***emblies, but they are big bucks. You are better off looking for a GM or Chysler Rack and Pinion. Alot of the late 80's through 90's cars where rack and pinion rear steer.
I did a search awhile back here on the Hamb looking for similar advice on a '54 Ford Crestline. The consenus was to use a J body rack off something like 1990 Chevy Cavalier, like FrozenMerc said. I'm still in the planning stages, but will give a follow up when I get to it. I've got to get out and find a junk car to get one off of then s**** the rest to pay for it. tnrotter
I put the GM J Body Rack on my '64 Mercury Monterey. I will let you know how it drives when I finish the car, but it was a fairly simple swap. This is a great article on adapting a rear steer power rack and pinion. http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/Swapping_to_rack_and_pinion_steering
