Guys...my im running a Model A rear X member and spring in my 32 3W coupe. The rear end is hung with parallel four bars. My question is, will I need a panhard rod with this setup ? I figure the A spring will keep the rear end from going side to side, so that a panhard rod wont be needed. What do u guys reckon ? Rat
I asked the same question about the 40 Ford spring pack - with short SoCal main leaf - in my 31 on 32 rails roadster. I thought at the time the rear end wouldn't move around to any great degree and practically speaking it may not be too bothersome. The consensus of opinion from more than a few very knowledgeable people were that the panhard is required. It does add to the steering accuracy etc. and in my view will make for a better handling car. One of the reasons I thought about leaving it off was that I was getting into a 'packaging' problem. That being trying to get it all - all being the sway bar and the panhard - to fit between the back of the rear crossmember and the front of the rear axle. It fits, but things are close. Important part is, nothing hits or conflicts with anything else throughout the range of travel. I would recommend you add a rear sway bar to your car. I have one in my 32 as well as the 31. The 32 handles very nicely - it also has parallel four bars although it runs coilovers. Regardless, the sway bar adds a lot to the handling capabilities. The Deuce Factory makes a very nice and not too large of a sway bar and it will fit in several places. I'm using one of these on each car.
Thanx C9, any other thoughts or opinions out there on this ? Gotta go one way or the other to finish off the frame b4 paint. Rat
