Anyone know what size tire is in rear of this car . I know the front one is a Firestone 500-5.25/16. Or what’s a good rear tire for a 32 coupe with fenders ? 650-670-700?
What goes around comes around,,,, When I was a young hotrodder everyone wanted 14 or 15 inch tires...Old Chevys were the worst because they were 6 lug...They use to search hard for the 6 lug 15 inch Chevy rim...Now my new pickup has 18 inch back to 1932 I guess...
the taller the tire the less RPMs the engine has to put out at the same speed... what are the travel plans... long trips or round town...
I have a set of Firestone 550-16 fronts and 750 rears Was going to run no fenders but decided to keep them on for now . The 750 -16 looks huge . Plan on driving it a lot lot short trips . Some freeway driving. .
It depends on how much room you have for the tire. A lot of people shoot for a 7.50 rear tire. BTW those are 16" wheels in the picture (by the distance of the flat area between hubcap and wheel hoop).
https://www.cokertire.com/tires/sty...=3&sidewall_style=1762&tire_rim_diameter=1777 That's page 3 of three pages of bias blackwalls.
The gap between the edge of the tire and the edge of the fender...........both horizontally and vertically will detrmine a whole lot in wheter your car "looks right". Everyone......not really, but many 32 builders feel this is only right when the gap is reasonably small with a large tire. Here is a picture of a 265/75/15r tire and its fender relation. The tire chart says its 30.6" in diameter and 10.4" wide. If that suits you, you can use the attached chart and look for a similar size in 16" tires. https://tiresize.com/chart/
tiresize.com is a good resource. I like the way you can search in 1" overall-diameter ranges. For those who are interested, the way to decipher metric tyre sizes, taking that example: (265 x 0.75 x 2)/25.4 + 15 = 30.65" nominal diameter 265/25.4 = 10.43" nominal section width Actual tyres are the size they are. The designations are rounded to the nearest 5mm width and 5% aspect ratio.
Here is a pretty cool link, it will tell you actual tire height based on tire size, so you can measure how tall a tire would be for your car. It has worked well for me in the past... Tire Height Calculator (tiresize.com)
I run 7:50 x16 in the rear on everything and front depending on fenders and era of car. I have a set of 8:20x16 but are too tall
Yes rim width in rear is 4.5 and run 5:50 highboy and 6:00 on a fender car . I also try to run 4.0 rims in the front with the 5:50 if I can find them. The 4.5 rims is ok with the 6:00 and unnoticeable on what your width is.
