Kustombuiler (Mike Brimm) will be cutting the top on my '50 Chevy soon and I suggested using a '53/'54 rear window. I thought it would look good wrapping around and also give better visability. Mike spoke with Paul Beck about it and Paul thought that the '53-'54 would be too wide. A '53(?) Caddy window was suggested. Anyone else have any ideas? Photos perhaps? Here's what I've got now (photoshopped version).
Dunno about the rear, but put an Olds windshield in it to get rid of that center post. Swipe the chrome trim from the Olds when you snag the windshield too.
Donzie, Personally, I think that the stock window layed down looks better than any other window you could put in there. IMHO. FONZI
Fonzi. Maybe once it's laid in place it will take on a different look. I don't want a small window and since this is to be an early '60s style custom I thought a larger, wrap aound window would look more appropriate.
If i was chopping a '53-54 I'dbe looking for a 50 back glass because the '53-'54 won't lie down. You would have to resort to sinking it in channels and all the weird drains and glue that goes with that. Stick with what you got, and don't be afraid to try it upside down if the chop is radical. Sometimes the top curve of the glass looks and fits better at the bottom with a radical chop. But then I'm sure kustombuilder knows all those tricks.
Here is one with the rear window like DrJ said. WARNING it is not trad but it gives the idea. web page
yea i also think the stock window will look cool here s my car witha 6 in chop in front rear with stock glass http://www.rumblerssf.com/images/SKshow/sled.jpg if u live your life by the law you wont live life at all had the wrong site the 1st try
i'm seriously leaning towards the stock window. i think it will work best and easiest. especialy since we want to get as close as possible to HATCH's photochopped image.
that chopped coupe that ron posted is pretty cool, except the chop! it wrecks the flow of the lines, the side profile is all wrong for the lower profile of the car, and the c pillar also looks bad, because the rear window is upside down, just ain't right when you look at the rear 3/4 shots. the upside down window would probably work better with a hardtopped chop.
