Just install rebel 9 plus 3 harness. When I turn key to acc. the starter ingauges. (starts turning over) . my switch has 4 post one ing bat acc and one in middle with no marking. i am running sbc one wire alt any thought on what i am doing wrong thanks rick
I think the starter wire goes to the center one. Ign goes to the coil Batt is for 12 volt in Acc is for everything else
then disconnect the switch, and use an ohm meter to figure out which terminals are connected in which switch positions.
The center tall one is definetly starter. Look closer, others are stamped BATT, ACC, IGN or similar. Small raised letters.
Da Tinman, I guess you gotta guess as to what the center post is for on the ign switch if you don't have instructions. I'm in the middle of installing a 9 Plus 3 Rebel Wire harness with a Painless Wire ign switch that does not identify the center post. The generic illustration of a ignition switch in Rebel Wire's instructions labels the center post "AST" with a callout that says IGN.SW.Start-Purple. So..the center post is for the starter.
Honestly that is a very simple mistake that more than one of us has done before . Yea it's the simple things that always get us . I got the same kit but haven't started installing it yet . Hope to next month . So how do you like the Rebal Wiring kits so far ? Retro Jim
removed kwick wire just junk and installed rebel and differance night and day rebel better easier to install ..... well but the ing switch still did not figure it out yet but i will
Here is a picture of Rebel Wire's ignition wire switch. Seems elementary. Thing to remember is the IGN post has two wires going to it: the coil wire (Pink) and IGN wire (orange). The starter wire (purple) goes to the center post. The posts are all threaded on my Painless ignition switch, instead of flat blades.
now I think maybe bad switch because that is how I wired it and turn key to right starts to crank engine.
Very well could be worn out or be bad from factory new . They aren't very much at the parts store or catalogs . Just make sure you don't buy those cheap ones for mowers ! They look the same sometimes but just won't last . I still think you got a wire connected wrong . Retro Jim
SQUIRREL says ohm meter. No meter: use a 12V. battery charger and a test light and bench test the switch.
BAd switch IS it.......Same thing happened to me TODAY while putting mine in. Nothing was wrong with my old switch but thought what the heck since I'm putting in all new I will change it. Went to auto parts store and bought a new one put it on hit the key and the car started but the starter kept cranking. Checked the wires at least 3-4 more times to make sure they were correct and it kept doing it. Decided to put the old ignition switch back on and I had no problems.......some of the new parts we buy now is absolute JUNK.
ratrodder is the winner installed new switch wired same way and works perfect thanks guys for all the help,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
