My C6 will need rebuilding soon.Have been told that with a full rebuild that I can go to a Mercon/Dextron type of tranny fluid even in an early Ford automatic tranny. If this is so,it will make things a bit easier for fluid as the type F and FA is at times a bit difficult.Which of the above types would be the best to use. Thanks in advance for any help. Good luck.Have fun.Be safe. Leo
I'm no expert, but I did rebuild a C4 once. From what I've read, the material used on the clutch discs will determine which fluid to use. Type F gives firmer shifts, Mercon gives smoother shifts.
Did you post this on the Ford Six forum ? If so the same answer is I use Valvoline Dexron 111 in my C6 Auto.
