Well I went out yesterday and turned the key and heard the "bag of rocks" sound for a second then it went away and the car fired up! Sounds terrible but I think it might be a cracked exhaust manifold. it ran fine for about 5 minutes other than the exhaust sound. The sound when I go to fire might be the starter? so I am very sorry to have wasted yalls time. I get a little over excited somtimes, especially when it comes to the only cool thing I own!

Sounds like you need someone who knows something about cars to go with you and look it over. Its very difficult to describe mechanical noise problems, even harder over the internet. You need a first hand opinion by somebody that has messed with engines before.

Yep, if you are down on bucks, I think you can still get yourself going for a reasonable price if you keep your eyes peeled. I know my example is a bit of a jelly bean engine, but I just bought a fresh rebuilt 327 long block chev complete with fresh bore KB hyper pistons. factory steel crank, new stainless valves, springs, cam, screw in studs, new bearings, new freeze plugs, etc., a complete running rebuilt long block for $600. The deals are out there...
