Brian, what do you think it would run in street trim? Just wondering. Lippy

  5. what cam company are you using? my buddy got a howards cam in a week. with the old engine running gas on street tires through the mufflers it went in the high nines. i think with the 498 it might hit the high eights with slicks.

It’s a custom grind from Schneider they can’t seem to get cam blanks to grind they so far have had good communication with me but unfortunately in this day and time you can’t grind a cam you can’t get a blank for my local engine builder has been calling me at least once a week for the last month asking if I have a source for certain big block mopar parts as they seem to be hard to get these days this weeks call was for cam bearings fortunately I have been able to help them out so far but not so lucky on the cam deal I will call Howard’s and see what they can do

I really think your car in street trim with slicks should easily run in the 8’s with no trouble that thing makes over a thousand hp on pump gas and it’s not that heavy with a killer chassis setup

  7. its a little heavy for a race car. 2960lbs.

  8. it's ready to fire up. Fluids are in, it's been pre oiled. Right now it's on the battery charger. Sunday at 1pm if all goes good there will be fire in the pipes. 20230401_203921.jpg

  9. Awesome. Your media crew needs to post a video of startup for us.

  10. I wear many hats. I am the media crew. It's always tense on the first fire up. If all goes well I might post a fire up video later in the week. After it fires the first time the filter it checked out. The heads are retorted. The lash is reset. The oil is changed. The timing is checked. These are just a few things that go on. Once everything checks out it's fired on nitro. Then I will make a video.

I’ll be listening Brian I’m sure I’ll hear it at my house lol I got some good news on Thursday cam blanks came in so hopefully in the next week or so I’ll have a cam to install then it will be waiting on pushrods lol

  13. What kind of cam blank are you looking for,,,,is this for a normal 426 Hemi application ?

I have a brand new roller cam for a 426 that has never been in an engine !
It’s so large I will never be able to use it,,,,,,it’s about .800 lift ,,,,,brand new in the box.
I can look at the cam card if y’all need me to .

My engine is a 512 inch wedge motor and I can’t use .800 lift either lol maybe in the next engine but not this one

  15. Sorry,,,,,this is the only roller that I have for a Hemi .
Here is a pic of the cam card for my Hemi cam,,,it was calculated with the ratio for roller rockers,,,,lol .

I don’t have any rollers for a wedge,,,although I do have several brand new solid lift cams for Mopars,,,,large lifts too,,,,lol .

  16. 20230402_183155.jpg 20230402_174614.jpg 20230402_174629.jpg Things didn't go as planned. It fired up great. It had good oil pressure and Bruno pressure. Once it got up to temp water was coming out of the number two pipe. The head came off soon after. The leak is coming from the large water port in the upper right hand corner.
My buddy Roger told me to use Dow sil 832. It will be back together this week. It sounded so good it gives me motivation to get it back together.
So with the engine apart I put the holes in the side windows. The five inch holes are a big safety upgrade. A fire extinguisher can fit through the hole. A hand can reach in to unbuckle the harness. All good reasons to have them. I put one on each side just in case the car would have the drivers side blocked. A trim ring finishes things off for a nice look. It's hard to get a good pic of it. If I get caught in heavy rain I will put tape over it.

  17. Following this thread, I knew you were firing it up today. Scrolling down, I saw the first photo, and thought it must have been a throwback photo, from before you put it back together since the top half of the motor is missing! Glad to hear you have it diagnosed. Hope the solution works well.

  18. i post the good and bad. things just dont always go as planned. there was alot of good that did come out of the fire up. other than the leak everything works and looks good. the filter was perfectly clean. nothing else leaked. the engine responded like it was on nitro. most likely do to having the blower freshly stripped and having the white strips added. it had used plugs in it with six month old 87 octane gas in the tank yet still sounded incredible. stay tuned in. more to come soon.

  20. When you take things to the level you have Brian, I expect this kind of occurrence. You are at a level most of us racers only can dream of. And now, back to top fuel work my friend . :)

    Brian,
Could you make block off plates and pressure test the heads prior to bolting them on. I know the Automotive Machine shop I deal with has to do that with certain late model heads.
In their world, finding and fixing quality issues is now a way of life.

  24. 20230406_193455.jpg 20230406_083427.jpg it's back together. I will let it sit 24 hrs for the sealant to dry. The new sealant I got from McMastercar can be ordered in several colors. I went with black so I can see it.

  25. It's the seal from head to block that had the leak. I do have a radiator pressure tester that would pressurize the whole system. Copper gaskets are tricky to get a good seal. When the temp comes up everything grows and moves around. My buddy Roger swears by the new sealer. Not all silicone is the same. The Hilamar sucked. I won't try that again. These things happen. No big deal. It can be a chore trying to make race car parts work on the street.

  26. I'm surprised to hear Hylomar did not work. I have heard so much good things of that during the years. Hoping this one seals. Do you use copper spray on the gaskets?

Well Brian I have now learned another thing once again. I didn’t know about that stuff and will definitely look into that I’ve used hylomar always before and never had an issue but then again the engine I used it on was an iron block not aluminum and aluminum is a whole different creature when it comes to expansion I do agree hylomar is a pain and this stuff looks way easier to use

  28. I'm working on the street zoomies today. I'm re using the flanges and turnouts outs. The centers are being changed to make it quieter. When they are done they will look like the race double wall zoomies. I might take the car to the Grove for a few eigth mile hits next week. My birthday is coming up soon I want to take it for a drive on that day. We will see what the weather is. It could be snowing.
