True & flatten, after intake installed ,
Same on bottom of blower case before matted/ installed on intake.
Usually it like 24 x 24 inch aluminum plate with 2 doll pins for handle with sand paper ,

Interesting. I've lapped stuff in before (large glass plate on the workbench with sand paper), but never an installed manifold.

    Cheers,

  3. It's the same idea of using a torque plate while boring a cylinder. Bolting parts down changes their shape.

  4. I have a 3/4 aluminum plate 18x18 with handles on it. Sand paper is glued to the bottom. I use lay out dye on the manifold deck. The manifold has several layers of rags filling it. After I sand it smooth I use a vacuum after each layer is removed.
If you are blowing out gaskets beneath you blower the manifold isn't flat.
Even if the parts are all new including the manifold once it's torqued down things will change.
Something else to think about while on the subject. If the deck is not flat and the blower is tightened down the distortion gets transfered to the blower case. Knowing that the rotor clearance is very tight what do you think is going to happen to the rotors and the seal? It takes some time and makes a mess but it's worth it.

  5. 20231117_160350.jpg The chassis returned to the place of its birth. Huge frame modifications will be done to accomplish the following.
    A. Blower starter fit.
    B. Increased fuel tank capacity.
    C. Increased safety.
    D. Better visibility.
    E. Astetically right. View attachment 5897524 View attachment 5897524

  7. If your referring to the new heads and injector pics the engine was just mocked up. Very loosely put together so we know where things need to go.
I have the injector in my possession. The blades are coming out to be anodized bright lime green. It should take about a week for the turn around. It's going to look cool.

I think he is referring to the last post with the attachments but go to a error page on our end, mine at least. One of my favorite threads on the HAMB, thank you for taking the time to post pics and detailed descriptions for those of us admiring from the side lines, I'm sure it adds a lot of time when you just want to get something done.

need a moon eyes decal on the blades as well....

  11. The front frame section was unbolted.
A nitro tank support was made so we could see how things might look. With the starter on the blower the tank was dropped and lowered a few inches. There needs to be enough room to get the starter off without hitting the nitro tank. It also needs to look good. The 90 degree bent tubing will have a mate that will attatch to the frame. It will loop around the tank providing protection for the tank. It will also provide a place to attatch mounts for the tank. Several ideas were thrown around. This seems to be the best fullfilling all of the needs. 20231130_104005.jpg 20231130_104024.jpg

    Just asking ,
    Why the blower starter?
Did you change blocks , I thought you where looking for one , if a stater provision on block & not using ,
Because dipper / oil containment being used ? Or blower starter for more showman ship.

  13. Because I'm removing the gas/efi system there is no way to start the car. A mini starter on the block would quickly exit it's position with 40-50 degrees locked into the mag. It requires 48 volts to get these engines started SAFELY. It also removes about 65 lbs off the car. Battery cables starter switch panel and wiring.
I still want a billet block. It's all about money.

  14. Some times it's the small details that look oh so cool. The butterflies come in red; black; blue; and clear. None go to good with a green car. A argument could be made for the traditional red. I sent them to green bay anodizing to be stripped and re anodized green. I think it looks cool. 20231206_192602.jpg 20231206_192627.jpg

Butterfly’s?? Is that why it’s called a “bug” catcher?

It looks cool, and it also says "I care about detail". Form and function.

    Bugcatcher
is like ridding in jeep with windshield down , motorcycle with no windshield ,
You catch bugs in your Teeth / Face,
Enderle use the name Bug-catcher/ Shower head <<64-65?) as model names stayed with the ""Bs"" & Trademarketing , next size up
    Bird Catcher then
    Buzzard Catcher ,,
    Then BarnDoor ,
    ( each model /name different cfm's )
Now Barndoor , not sure of name , Because keeping in name with B??
    The butterflies are like
    2 Barn doors thoe !! ( Square)
Or maybe like in American Graffiti ,
Off the track you suck in a Barn ? !!
The modern one that came around in the last 20 years or so is called
    Big and Ugly
    Which it is;)
Took the place of Barn D ,
Barn D is a hit or miss injector
Problem with doors /butterflies being so big surface area that ,to close to blower rotors made it inconsistent , pulling a vacuum on the bottom side which opening the blades /butterflies
But tractor pullers there are some that still use the Barn Door

  21. Actually, the Barndoor came first, several years before the 'catcher line.

Ok did not know of ,
I started seen ing early 70s
So I wonder why If Barn came first ,
& did not work, then try 10 or so years latter ?? Kent thought modern more power full engine, his first model would have a use ??

Also thinking if you where not on W-Coast in early 60s & did not see in a Mag did not know of , many things going on , realistically this was true all across the United States and on different continents, like a Tunnel Ram style intake was pre 64, but not acknowledge Here to existed

Brian, you had installed larger 3” butterflies in the older 4 port setup. Does the new “hat” flow more or equal CFM ?
The green is perfect! An excellent improvement for a visual that I personally was concerned was a step backwards from arguably the most jaw dropping power plant/vehicle combo on the planet, bar none.

    “green eyed lady”

  24. An Enderle Bugcatcher has four 3.69" butterflies, equalling 32.08sqin. A Hilborn upright four port with 3" butterflies would have 28.27sqin.

  25. And there you have it. It's also bigger than a hilborn four port gmc-e model.

  27. After a few days at PRI in Indianapolis it's time to get back on the car. As you can see in the pics the main frame extension has been built. The re enforcement bars need to be built along with the tank brackets.
The tank is in the process of getting extra capacity. After the drawings were done and the math figured out it should equal a extra 2.5 gallons. It will be five inches long and angle rearward to clear the suspension.
The blower; heads and manifold are off the car. I need to weld up the o ring grooves in the manifold. The new heads have o rings in them. You can't double them up. The manifold will be fly cut flat again. Is their really a off season? 20231210_101005.jpg 20231210_100957.jpg 20231210_101018.jpg 20231210_101836.jpg 20231210_100619.jpg 20231210_100615.jpg 20231210_100555.jpg 20231210_115918.jpg 20231210_115943.jpg

  28. Relaxing by the fire tonight doing some magnesium maintenance. Getting the most out of a day off. 20231210_191335.jpg

  29. I had to get creative holding the manifold. A cylinder head fixture was used. Extra care was taken to get it dialed in. If it's machined wrong big problems lie ahead. A fly cutter was used. Touch up around the ports will be done today. 20231214_202040.jpg 20231214_212013.jpg
