I was looking at the planet gears in your transmission. Are all the needles and shafts good?

  2. Like brand new. What do you see?

Quit crowding up people's threads with ur bullshit. Brian knows exactly what he's doing. He's built a killer traditional 60s style fuel car. No stupid ass wings, no bullshit, no gimmicks. Give it up.

Traditional looking fuel altered from the march meet. Granted it's pushing the limits with no aero but it's got the look. Running low low 6s at 220+. Puts the clown cars to shame. It can be done.

  6. I have talked about the importance of regular maintenance. While changing rod bearing which by the way looked great I found needle bearings in the pan. They can only come from a lifter. Those following this thread know it was a broken lifter that led to a hole in the block and a snapped cam. Looking up into the engine I could see all 16 rollers. Tuning the engine over there were no loose lifters. Things that make you go hmmm. The intake came off to pull out lifters. I found number two exhaust had a piece out of the wheel. This prevented a repeat of the same kind of disaster. The cam looks good. It wouldn't have lasted another pass. The lifters were comp cams. They can't handle the spring pressure. I have spares but I won't be using these again. A set of morels will go in. They do require new pushrods. 20240704_171500.jpg 20240704_132945.jpg

  10. Come on kids fight nice. I don't want the moderators to shut down this thread.
    All opinions are welcome here.
I have my ideas to. Part of the fun is trying to do something they say can't be done. There's alot of that going on here and has been for several years. The altered class came from the old fuel coupe class. They had roofs. Picture the 554 car and the 15 Oz coupe as examples.

  11. Tommy the videos taken by Arron are up. There was some difficulty getting them off of Facebook. He was nice enough to repost them here.

  12. Even with my pretty much nonexistent knowledge about chassis setup, I can understand your decision. At the level you're flying, experimenting without the proper knowledge base could have unwelcome consequences. And I'd think that just by working with a guy like that you'll pick up some useful hints in the process.
Thanks again for all the detail and insight you share here. Incredible journey you're on. Great thread!!

All the lifters have body wear/galling like those two? Bodys don't look that hard/hard enough?

One thing Brian has taught me over the years is buy the good part the first time as it will cost you less in the long run and the morel lifters I have in my blown alky afx car are top notch they were not cheap by any means brian the car sounded awesome and wish I could have been there this year but life hasn’t been kind to me this last year but I’m getting things sorted out so I can spend some time racing next year onward and upward keep up the good work thanks for taking the time to make these posts as I know it’s time consuming

  16. The comp cams lifters are good. I just need better. It's all about the spring load. Installed they are 400 lbs on the seat. At open they are over 800 lbs. A typical street car that's hopped up might have 90 lbs installed.

  17. The galling on the lifter body is really the light. Yes there is some. The flash makes it look much worse than it really is. Nitro motors have alot of trash going through them even with the oil changed after each run. Piston skirt and bearing junk is most of it.

  18. Wouldn't the most likely way a lifter wheel could fail like that be from bouncing on the cam?

  19. They all bounce. Big springs help stop that. The drag and drive cars set lash at 0 to make them live on the street during long drives just for that reason. There is alot of violence going on in that engine.

Just asking out of pure ignorance, but wouldn't a Rev Kit help to stop the lifter bounce?

  21. Rev kits came out a long time ago before they had long valves and good springs. The springs in those kits were not very much. I have one for a bbc.

  22. This will take care of the lifter issues once and for all. Morel is the best out there. They are re build able to. The foam case they came in was cool.
I pick the car up from Brian Metzenheims chassis shop tomorrow. 20240711_204512.jpg 20240711_204518.jpg

    Jewelry for the motorhead!

  24. Of course the new lifters require new pushrods. I have a Manton mock up pushrod kit. You put together a push rod that is the correct length. Then it's sent in to manton. They will send back 16 pushrods exactly the same size. They etch the length into the rod for easy re ordering. When you start using premium parts it shows.

  25. Man I can’t say enough how much I love what you are doing with this car, thank you for posting the continuing evolution of this monster

  26. Thanks. It's alot of fun for me.

Maybe it's just the pic or the lighting but why does the last pic, left lifter look beat up and dinged up especially the roller? Ive never had a roller valve train before, so correct me if i'm wrong, but I expected them to look smooth as glass. Is it not that significant in this situation?

  28. It's the lighting. They are new and perfect. Going in the engine today after sitting in a container of oil overnight.

  29. 20240713_123413.jpg It was only a matter of time before I needed these.
    Rim screws
    Data logger
With the new rear suspension setup the springs needed to change. I went from 130lbs to 95lbs. The tire pressure went from 12.75 down to 10lbs to start.
The data logger will record these.
    Blower boost
    Shocks front and rear
    Drive shaft speed
    Fuel pressure
    Egts
By using this info I can program the shocks and grid better.
This is how they are making cars go so fast today.
The new lifters are in. It's all back together just waiting on push rods. 20240714_140424.jpg View attachment 6127404

  30. I forgot to mention the race pack has a built in accelerometer. Mounting is critical for its correct operation. More on that later.
