rebuilding after the crash

Discussion in 'Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs' started by racer-x, Sep 19, 2015.

  1. Now that all eight cylinders are even we can start adding power. Timing was only 40 degrees. I upped it to 45 yesterday. That will make it hit harder and rev up faster. I also changed the lenco from a 1,25 to a 1.34 this will make it hit harder also. PXL_20250505_230759150.jpg

Thanks go out to the hamb members who stopped by our pit area.

  8. The car has been serviced. The upper rod bearing were changed along with a few lowers. The trans with the 1.34 gear set is in. The shifter linkage received a lot of attention to ensure it works perfectly. A new shifter gate with detents was my made. New heim joints that are heavier were installed. The trailer was cleaned and restocked. Restocking is a time consuming thing. Nitro; oil; methanol; solvents; water; and anything else that was consumed needs to be replaced. The trailer needs to be washed. The bathroom needs to be cleaned. The tires need to be checked for damage. The refrigerator needs to be cleaned and restocked. Before the next event a trip to the grocery store will happen. It's a never ending process. There's a lot of behind the scenes work going on to make a race. We have a plan for Eddyville.

  9. My boy, ya done did good. I hope you are successful in your return to the drag strip. Give ‘em hell.

Are you running tonight? Looks like the rain has finally cleared out. With cool temps should be good power for the making.

  22. Unfortunately the converter broke. I drove home today and pulled it apart. It will get sent out Tuesday. I have secured another while it's being repaired.
On a positive note Jerry Newman turned up the power. It sounded and felt like never before. PXL_20250524_235219572.jpg

It was nice meeting you. I was hoping that the problem last night wasn't a showstopper. Hopefully next time I'll be able to see you get a pass as your car looks awesome.

Well shit Brian I was hoping to see you make a pass but when I didn’t get to see you run this evening I wondered and looked up the qualifying runs and found you had no times turned in I figured something happened and was hoping it wasn’t bad but I see it isn’t good but at least it wasn’t severely catastrophic good luck on the next outing

Worlds most expensive game of knocking over dominoes! Add power, break the next thing repeat but boy does it sound good! Love following along seeing how you create solutions at every turn and somehow make it create even more power!

Do you know what broke in converter ?
Does not look to be serviceable unless cut open.
I seen Friday Night @ start up ,
Could not tell if started before water box , if so is that when broke when you went to engage forward ?

  27. It turns out the converter didn't break. I changed gears from a 1.25 to a 1.34 for a better 60 foot.
I have changed gears for decades and never ran into this issue. The 1.25 uses a different shaft. It's smaller by .050 so the splines were not engaged. It's a easy fix I just put the 1.25 back in. I guess those things happen when you have no sleep and your in a hurry.
We will be back at Eddyville the weekend before the fourth of July for their night of fire. PXL_20250525_210700944.jpg

Gotta say that the "Like" in this case isn't for the fact that you broke, it's for the post explaining what you found. Seems like it's often the little things that'll get ya. Glad you figured it out and as you said, an easy fix.
And of course, for the umpteenth time, thanks for taking us all along for the ride. What a ride it is!!

Well at least it isn’t a terrible fix and hopefully didn’t cost much but I understand the being in a hurry and no sleep deal after my bonneville experiences that whole week is that probably very comparable to a drag week deal I’ll see you at mokan for sure
