  1. looks like it would work. go back and reread how we did it.

  2. I stopped by the chassis shop today with a pile of parts. several items were removed from the car that needed to be detailed. the arms for the torsion bars went into the mill. after some time there the ball end cutter had them looking good. now they no longer look like big clubs. the support for the dual drive received a few lightening holes. i worked on some floor and door panels getting them ready for the trip to the powder coaters later today. the hooks that hold the window straps were trimmed a little bit. i also have a trip planned to see mike the polisher. i have a large pile of parts that neede his attention before they go to the chrome plater.
I havent been to jims in weeks. its always fun to see what has shown up lately. this time its a unmolested stage two loghe chassis thats going under the dougs headers corvair. After its determined its straight. the owner of this car has asked me to drive it when its done. the other interesting car was a 32 coupe. it has a folks chassis under it. the car is there to get the shotgun motor installed. the owner was my sons high school shop teacher. he also owns a real deal hurst hemi dart. the coupe is being set up for drag week. they get to work on some cool cars in that shop. 20161128_114058.jpg 20161128_121628.jpg 20161128_113724.jpg 20161128_113744.jpg 20161128_113841.jpg 20161128_113945.jpg

  3. The work continues on the interior. i stopped by d and d powder coating this morning. The parts i dropped off monday were done. Now most of the interior is done. i cant permanently mount the door panels until i get some of the parts chrome plated. the hooks that hold the window straps will look good chrome against the gold panels. It will also be a durable finish. 20161203_145440.jpg

  8. I must be living right. while taking a head apart for inspection and servicing i found this. a broken lock would have sure messed up a good day at the track next summer. being dilligent on the maintainance saves time and money. the heads will get a full servicing. That was too close for comfort. 20161213_204532.jpg

That chassis is really nice! Who said you were going to drive it? LOL
Hey Brian it's me Paul. You get to drive the carbon fiber one. That one will have an updated chassis. I don't think you'll want to hit this one with the 1967 grade of safety in it! This one will only be a cackle car.

  15. Paul welcome to the hamb. Did you get the parachute? Jett said this one was doing 1/8 passes. That would be safe. Its only about 120mph in the 1/8th. I will drive anything you got.

  16. I picked up a box from mike filled with polished goodies. Shown is one of the torsion bar arms that was recently machined. With temps outside below zero i worked on projects inside my house. The reason for not getting a full pass on nitro this year was due to a fuel capacity issue. The tank at 3.5 gallons is just too small. We were running out of fuel around 1000 feet. A 5 gallon tank will be the replacement. To reduce consumption im adding a high/low system. To do this the fitting coming off the fuel shut off needed to be replaced from a three way to a four way fitting. A special fitting to hold a jett was then screwed in. A second shut off was added next. A line going back to the inlet side of the pump was made to finish it off. Now anytime the engine is running the second shut off is in the open position returning fuel to the tank. Its saving fuel by leaning out the engine. The jet placed inline controls how much fuel is returned. After the burnout and before the car is staged the valve is closed sending all the fuel to the engine. Bad things will happen if the valve is not fully closed. To prevent the valve from opening during the pass a cable with a locking mechanism will be used. With the extra capacity and less fuel being used we are confident we can make a full pass under power. 20161219_180905.jpg 20161219_171821.jpg 20161219_174140.jpg 20161219_174317.jpg 20161219_173741.jpg

Man you have this fuel stuff down pretty good.

  18. There is nothing secret there. Most fuel cars run a high low system. If you watch a race on tv look at the cars after the burn out and listen to how they sound. A crew member will remove the rev limiter. The driver turns on the second mag and fuel pump. He then closes the high low valve. The engine rpm will drop and the engines tone changes due to the extra fuel. Raw fuel will start coming out of the pipes. Doing all of this will keep the plugs clean and build heat. It also saves fuel that serves as ballast to hold the front end down.

  19. When we were doing the passes for my competition license this fall a spark plug broke. The insulator and center electrode fell into the cylinder. The intake valve is clearly bent not to mention the pocked up combustion chamber. The piston damage resulted in a pinched ring. Leak down was recorded at 85%. Lucky for me the cylinder didnt receive any damage. New pistons have arrived to replace a few i dont like. To fix the heads we just sand off the high spots and replace the valve. The aluminum hot heads are very forgiving. While cosmetically it looks bad functionally its not. The hot heads cost some money up front but pay for themselves many times over in situa 20161107_133741.jpg 20161107_135406.jpg tions like this or worse. They can be fixed over and over. The steel heads just get thrown away. Steel is too costly to fix. Consider all of the costs on your rebuild.

Banged it up more than I would have thought! The pistons can't be cheep :(, are they considered consumables with a motor like that?

Looks like a screw to me.

  23. It does some what look like a screw went down there but there is no way one can get there. We have a screen between the blower and injector. When i pulled the plug out the whole center was gone. Even on seven cylinders it did a 1.23 sixty foot. Heres a pic after sanding. The seats still need to be replaced. I plan on rotating the other head out and replacing it with a new replacement hot head. the new head will receive a lot of attention from roger. it needs to be milled; ported; o-ringed; seats and guides installed. old one will become a emergency spare. pistons are never cheap. having some spares around is never a bad thing. 20161223_220646.jpg 20161223_220941.jpg

  24. I got up at 4:30am so i could run to r+j performance in cedar fall iowa. Its all of a 5 and a half hour ride. Roger and i had a lot of work to get done. The crank was inspected and polished. The new pistons were cut. The valve spring pressure was checked. The valves were spun and we found two bad ones. The block was decked and honed. The dark shadows on the deck and in the bores are low spots. the low spots are all gone now. we have round cylinders again and flat surfaces. The heads were also decked. The o-ring wire was removed prior to machining. Aftèr getting decked a new receiver groove was machined back in. New stainless wire was then tapped back in. new copper head gaskets .0010 thicker will be ordered to make up for the machining. We did alot of work in one day. I was loaded back up by 11pm for the drive back home. Its now 5am and im ready for bed after a 24 hour day. 20170106_143121.jpg 20170106_143541.jpg 20170106_143529.jpg 20170106_173936.jpg 20170106_143121.jpg 20170106_143541.jpg 20170106_143529.jpg 20170106_173936.jpg

  26. Now thats something to try. It could be a three fuel engine. Kryptonite has got to be worth a tenth at least.

  30. I had collector plates on it. those have a one time fee. I was told I cant run them anymore because the car was modified. I could have gone with hobby plates but those cant be personalized. I think they were 85.00 im in racine co.
