i wanted to frame it with the drag week frame we all got in the goodie bag a few years ago. unfortunately it was destroyed in the crash. im looking on ebay for one.
All of the hard work we did this past fall to make liscence passes paid off. I found this in the mail box today. Now we can take the car to the track and find out its true potential. No more passes limited to the 1/8 mile. I might upgrade further to a nitro funny car liscence due to some recent offers to drive some nitro funnies. The offers just cant interfere with my car.
My 2017 showed up today also , Now they are offering a 3 yr licenses , P.S. Brain , If the Funny Ride ( V N /FC ) would interferes with yr car , On those day I am willing to Fill the seat , I'm East of the Mississippi!
The moon tank showed up today. This one is a 5 gallon tank. Its replacing the 3.5 gallon tank. Between the competition licence along with the tank being too small they were both holding me and the car back. Both the new and old are both eight inches across. The differance is in the length. The new tank is three inches longer.
With the engine out i figured now was a good time to do some work on the frame. Anything that was not chromed or pollished last year was recently taken care of. Inventory was taken on all of the old fasteners. They were all replaced with chrome pieces. Several items on the frame were trimmed down or had holes drilled in them. This was done not only to save some weight but to also give a more finished look. The frame will be gone over with 0000 steel wool to remove any surface rust. The bracket that held the oil filter was cut off. It seemed like a good idea to mount it on the frame rail. It was always in the way when we changed headers. It will be relocated to a more suitable location. A lot of filing made the area look unblemished. The seats and floor were pulled so jim can finish the tin. The door panels went back on with the recently chromed hardware. That turned out good. All of this work also allows me to examine the front end for possible problems. We did find the steering box had come slightly loose. We will use different fasteners and lock tight next time around. Good thing i check stuff regularly.
The zoomies i had on the car last year were borrowed from a friend. I called hedman and ordered a 2 1/2" kit. The kit contains four pairs of tubes. Each set has its own angle. They change by three degrees. That way they lay at the right angles. The material is heat treated dom tubing. I will build one set for the track and another for the street. The street version will have baffles inserted to help quiet things down.
I spoke to the people you refered me to on Saturday. I have to say I was impressed. they are working on a quote for a 38 foot vintage. on the way to the Detroit autorama next week I plan on stopping at vintage and the united factories to take a closer look. I want to see for myself what the differences are in quality and construction.
I have a 24' Pace Pursuit that is a real good trailer. I would suggest extra width, torsion axles and one piece roofs. Gary
im going extra wide; extra long; extra tall. im going with a bath room and shower. its a costly option but i can justify the expense by saving on average 100 dollars a night by not having to sleep in a hotel. i can also go racing more if the misses can take a shower and do her hair. it will have everything i need to run the car on a serious level. i have spent alot of time this off season researching trailers. i hope i get it right.
Vintage makes top notch trailers. I have done a lot of shopping around and ended up ordering from Bob at Westside Motorcoach in Marengo il. Great guy to deal with he sent me probably 10 different quotes when I couldn't make up my mind. Mine will be done the end of the month 34' with bathroom. It's fully loaded as well Sent from my SM-G930R4 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
im going 38 or 40 foot. I need to be able to fit the drag week trailer inside for that event. that alone is eight feet with out the tongue. when that's not in there I want to be able to bring the atv. I just want to have enough room so if I need to knock the heads off or replace some pistons I have what I need. a generator; welder; air compressor and all the spare parts for the car will be on hand. I have been several hours away from home when I needed a part that was sitting in the shop. nothing ruins a good weekend at the track like a broken car with out being able to fix it. good to hear you are happy with the vintage.
Yea the only reason I went with a 34' is I wanted a bumper pull trailer 34 is the longest they sell. Bob will be at the drag expo at the end of the month with his new demo he's a really nice guy and his customer service is better than a customer could ask for I'm really happy with him. he seems on top of things. I spoke to him Saturday at noon. when I called vintage this morning to set up a visit the guy was already working on my quote. that alone tells me the guy wants my business and he will follow through. the vintage shower is 1500-2000 dollars less than the united. that frees up cash for a awning. my dodge diesel truck was ordered with the trailer package so its all set up for a gooseneck. I figured some day I would be getting in deep again. its obvious I didn't learn the first time around.
The last couple of sentenses reminded me of a little bit of humor.Seems as how a fellow went to visit a friend. His friend was really frazzled when he got there. He says, man you look about wore out Yeah says his buddy,I`m in it up to my shoe tops.Awwwwwwww now says he that ain`t too bad.Ain`t too bad says he,Hell I fell in head first. Good luck.Have fun.Be safe. Leo
I started a thread recently about a electrical problem i was having with my lathe. Several members provided helpful information with their responces. One in particular came from mcmopar. Tony is his real name. We have talked on a few occasions at the track and he has been following the cars progress here. He said his friend mark is good with electricity and machinery. He does that stuff for a living. Tony said he would see if mark would like to help out. As it turned out they drove four hours one way to my place today. They worked on the lathe for several hours. They didnt leave until it was working again. How cool is that? I cant thank them enough for the work they did. The first pic shows the burned up forward contactor. I searched everywere for a new one. There were none to be had. So mark removed the bad contactor. He wired the remaining good contactor up so the lathe runs forward only for now. if i find a replacement contractor it can be wired up for reverse at that time.. I cant think of any time i needed to run my lathe in reverse exept for taping left hand threads. For what i mainly do it will work just fine.
Brian, it was great talking to ya, and learning about nitro. Its a lot easier to understand when I can see it and touch it. Your car is pretty crazy and seeing it taken apart again, you realize how much is really going on in there. Like we said, its all about who ya know, and this time I knew a guy with electrical knowledge that likes fast cars and was willing to help. Good luck with your coupe. Tony
The ups truck just dropped off a case of the latest nitro madness magazine. The car nailed a cover shot. This is the first time the rebuilt car now in green gets some ink. Pete ores took the pics. He is a good friend and the official photographer at union groves track. While not the biggest circulated magazine out there the article has special meaning for me. This magazine is geared toward nitro racers. Many readers are friends and those in the industry i look up to. Its a big thrill for me to make it in this mag.
WOW a Great read and Great pics! Very well deserved, and fitting for your fantastic effort. Congrats, Gary
