I don't want to post on this thread so much but it's got a lot going on. It is entertaining, informative, and exciting. So I was showing my friend Dennis(big fan of the car after meeting you, seeing the chassis, and combo. I said you seem to be taking the unlimited class and your future chances very serious. He says, "if you're gonna run top fuel you might as well be top dog" I said I think he's gonna need bigger tires then. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
The tires i use are the same as the vintage front engine top fuel dragsters. This spec tire by m h has allowed these cars to go over 265 mph. I have a very light car. I also leave at a idle. Its not violent like a turbo car. Tires bigger than whats needed slow a car down. My car doesnt spin the tires. Until it does we will stay with what we have because it works. The turbo cars wind up the spool then take off on a very violent launch. They need big tires to prevent spinning. Its a rare case but bigger not always better.
i don't swap pulleys just to go from gas to nitro. i will swap them for more boost depending on the weather.
Brian is was kinda a joke in reference to all that percentage you are eventually going to throw at'm when it's on kill next Drag Week. Keep at it man, I'll be here until then talking too much all the while[emoji41] Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Hmmm, Donovan 417, lots of boost, 50% nitro to start, then "uprated %". Drag Week 1st running Nitro. AA/FC hot rod. "Getting serious, I see header flames in my future". Green, by any chance... ? . I'd take vacation see that, & be willing to help... . In any case, my favorite thread - & one of the most informative to boot. Brian, you rock! Marcus...
Nrgwizard thanks for the offer. One of the things that makes drag week real is the rules state the car can have the driver and two crew members that can ride in the car. The only other people that can help have to be other wrist banded participants. This limits how much work can be done to the car. In years past some cars had six man crews.
Brian is very serious about winning Drag Week. He knows what he's up against, but he also knows that it can be done in many different ways. This year a nitrous car won overall. No one expected that!
No-on except Dave Schroeder and John Ens. I tell everyone I damn near turned a wrench on the Vette but in reality I was using a 9/16 as a fidget spinner while I stood beside it. Well done Jim. 2nd place Gasser A and what - your 4th finish ? Brian - you're my hero buddy. Donovan block, apocalypse level MSD... Go man go. With all that's going on - including your neglected lawn care - do we get to share a beer in Rock Falls ?
Of course. Looking forward to it. I hope rock falls does a good track prep. Our intention is to really go after it with the tune up. There are a few more things we want to try before the season ends. Unlike last year the car will be on nitro. Im taking a break from mowing to post this. Only 1.5 hrs left.
I LOVE the thread. My wife is starting to hate it. I have two builds going and one on deck, and suddenly I'm talking drag car, which has not happened in 20 years. She is not terribly impressed. It's the gateway drug to drag racing thread, especially with these guest visitors like squirrel. Keep the hits coming fellas.
A huge THANKS for starting and regularly updating this thread. I've really enjoyed following along and have learned a lot too. Looking forward to seeing you run at Rock Falls, as I'm hoping to make it there for at least one of the days. Saw your misfortune at the Meltdown and what you've done since then, as everyone else says, is just epic. BTW, I stole a quote from one of your posts to use in my signature line! Love it!!
"I LOVE the thread. It's the gateway drug to drag racing thread" . HAHAHAHahahhahhhha... Can't argue... . Brian does make it look easy... . (proves he knows what he's doin'.) Marcus...
Must really help when you live in Drag City!!!! Speaking of mowing the yard.... think I have let mine go to seed long enough.
"This is getting serious now. I see header flames in my future." "I LOVE the thread. It's the gateway drug to drag racing thread" You guys are hilarious, this thread has grown into something we all will remember for long. Brians coupe will be memorized longer. That memory stain will be harder to remove than my first girlfriends underwear.
We fired up the car with the pro mag. It sounds like its supposed to now. It booms when the gas is hit. I could be in for a surprise at rock falls.
yes. it wont have any water in it. i wont have a different block until next spring. come on up texas isnt that far away. the fall out is a good time.
Cool. Tony is bringing the shine again. We are now rethinking the donovan block idea. The original idea was to weld aluminum sleeves in a cast water block then press in iron sleeves. Now we might use a billet block and machine away the sides and inner valley. The machining between the cylinders provides the space for water. A aluminum cover would then bolt on after machining to hold the water. This is the way dart does their blocks. Look up dart aluminum water block.
Try to get as much surface area in the between cylinders area as you can - I've seen water passages (not in engines) that look like ununununun - three times the surface area per linear inch.
I just got off the phone tonight with a major magazine. The car will be appearing in print very soon. They are planning on doing a big multiple page story with lots of photos. When i get a date on its release i will post the info. This is going to be a big deal for the car. This kind of exposure opens doors to parts and tech support i wouldnt otherwise have access to. Features like this attract manufacturers that want the car for product development. It is also a nice way to recognise those that have helped make this all possible. Its actually a lot of work to do these magazine features. It takes days cleaning the car so its spotless. The photo shoots ussually take a few hours. The story then needs to be written and revised several times. Thats the part i have the most trouble with. When it all comes together its well worth the time and effort we put into it. We feel honored every time we are chosen for these articles.
That's just awesome, Brian. So glad you've shared so much...pretty cool to be able to follow along and then actually see it documented in print. I don't know you from Adam, but it's going to be neat to say to a few friends of mine when the article comes out.. "Yeah, I know that car". Just way cool.
Not to be a ball breaker but now its put up or.... After that comment I will make sure I open my beer at the Fallout.
