OIP (3).jpg Next step is to buy a can of Kroil and soak the threads really well before trying to unscrew the covers. Bob [IMG]

Should be interesting to see how heating both sides of something will somehow loosen things.

I find it odd to as to how it can work but am following previous posters here.

    Heat on the Grill Method
Heat in an outdoor grill (in the ashes) until bordering on red hot (30-45 minutes). Do it outdoors as it will stink badly as the rubber seal and old sludge burn off.

So I have an old propane grill with the lava rocks in it. I am going to place them directly on the lava rocks and cook them Then quench them in cold water to see if it will work. Others have tried and say this method will work. Time will tell as I am headed to do it this week.

OK, brief explanation for the respite. A former unit member committed suicide about three weeks ago and I just needed to get away. So after two weeks backpacking in Dolly Sods Natural wildlife refuge living off of whatever I returned home to more tragedy. My oldest sons step son was killed in a motorcycle accident Friday evening. He had just turned 17, graduated high school a year early and was going to enlist. That being concluded tomorrow with his funeral I will be getting back to this project and daily life shortly so please just bare with me. Next step is to bake them, quench and attempt disassembly.

  9. Just make sure that the fill plugs are out before you put them into the barbeque, otherwise you will have very explosive results.

Thank you all for your understanding and faith.

I already have them out before the molasses soaking. That would have been exciting if done though. One of those time bomb fuses with a life expectancy of?

Waking up an older thread here..... any more progress/ pictures about these shocks? Looks like you were off to a good start.

I may want to try rebuilding a pair.
