Got this huge Snap-On torque wrench at a rummage sale this weekend for $5. It's missing the lens over the dial, so I'll have to figure out something for that. Still, felt like a good deal.
I haven’t seen one of those style clasps in years. I was almost guaranteed to lose my keys when it popped open.
Found these at an old Buick dealership. They were just throwing away old tools and equipment when I was working there.
A few trinkets I picked up lately. Normally I wouldn’t buy a pink plastic knife, but my Dad used to work at a Flying A station back in the day.
Score of the day! Starretts, beautiful wood box with gauge blocks and they look like they're practically unused.
There must have been a factory out there in the 60's (70's?) stamping out those clasps by the million. I haven't seen one in a while either. Cheers, Harv
Kind of shocking that a dealership was throwing away a boxed set of micrometers and more. Good thing you were there to save all that stuff!
I was talking to our GM about having them post them for sale and see if they could sell them, and he said it wasn't worth the time and to scrap the stuff. They scrapped an Amco brake lathe that I didn't have room to save. They also tossed some really old engine stands and an engine hoist that I think were probably from the 60s. It was a Kia dealership when I was there and they didn't see any use in that stuff.
Did a little shopping. Here’s the haul. The chauffeur badge is from the 30s. The fender chrome is ‘59 Ford. The Montana plate is a motorcycle plate. The small plates are Denver bicycle plates. The wild card is the Maryland plate. I have no idea about this plate, never seen one like it before. What does the HAMB say?
I was in Bowling Green last weekend and searched the swap meet numerous times but couldn't find anything that "tripped my trigger" There a few swap meet pics on the thread that is linked in my signature.
Only folks like "us" & scrap metal tweekers would take any interest in this crap. First is an old washing machine (to be repurposed as a beer cooler) & an old Thermador oven that will be mounted in a wall & repurposed as a liqour cabinet. The stainless is in much better shape than the pic shows. Both from my Grandmothers old house. We had to use a bottle jack & some redneckery to rescue it from the collapsed roof. It was a good time.
I actually found this about 50 years ago when I was a teenager. I was floating down a river in Ellicott City, Maryland, in an area of gentle rapids, with one of my brothers in a rubber raft, when I saw this on the bottom. I managed to get it into the raft, and took it home. I set it out to dry, and hundreds of little worms wriggled out of the muck covering it. I chipped and wire brushed the rust off, and it looked pretty good. It's cast iron, a little over 17 inches tall. I gave it to my aunt, who collected lions of all kinds. My wife and I just had to move my aunt to a nursing home, where she doesn't have room for much of her own stuff, so I am reunited with this one. I think it might have come off a bridge.
@Lepus that's amazing! Never saw anything like that, is it cast iron? Would be great to figure out for sure its original purpose.
@Squablow, yes it's cast iron. I'm going to try to get in touch with the Ellicott City historical society to see if they can figure out what it came from. I thought it might have been broken off a bridge, or something else near the river.
Picked this up cheap the other day. Shell Oil Zippo magnifying glass. Made by Zippo, looks like a Zippo, but it actually has two magnifying lenses inside the case. Haven’t seen another one like it before.
Just picked up some publicity stills from an online auction. You might recognize some of the stars in the first one. I was fascinated by the history, and all the stuff going on in the background, of the second one.
Nice old car trunk from the Sunday Flea Market, found it in the last booth, someday It will be on my '29 Fordor. All the mounting hardware was inside, key is long lost.
