Yup, flathead 6 and Fluid Drive. It was on the road very recently, still has brakes and lights, the battery holds a charge, it's not like starting with a barn car. Pretty solid by Wisconsin standards too, although I'll be undoing a couple of license-plate floor patches. It also had one of those big flame-thrower setups for the exhaust. I'm not going to keep that, but there might be pictures of it doing that somewhere. I might do something kinda custom with the interior, just because of what materials I have laying around that I want to use, and that'd be part of the practice on this car for future builds. Story I got is a guy bought it fairly recently and brought it home, and his wife thought it was ugly and told him no way he could keep it, so it got moved to another location where my buddy bought it at a somewhat firesale price, and I got it from him.
So I am privileged to go to a boiler room on Mondays to talk cars and other pertinent discussions. This week the gate keeper asked if I enjoyed the Rodders Journal. I have two that came in a swap meet magazine box and read them cover to cover. He asked if I wanted some of his duplicates as he had them for sale for a while, and they weren’t moving. Then he put two milk crates worth in my pickup, I was and still am speechless, but appreciative.
Sunday Flea Market was good this week, bit cool wore my winter coat for the first time this season. Sparkomatic with Mario Andretti 500 handle and Frankland center section were my quick picks.
Any idea what this AMPMETER is out of at 2 3/8 diameter it had to be a mid size to large car, mid 1930's I'd guess. Thanks! Bob
Junkyard haul from this weekend. Got some much needed bits for the '50 Dodge I just bought. The rocker molding unfortunately has some Farmer Brown bolts through it, but it's better than what I have now, which is nothing. Also got some exhaust manifolds for my '41 Cadillac and they've got a shockingly good exhaust pipe still attached, which I can use. My exhaust is totally missing and this would be a tough piece to make from scratch, will make my job a lot easier. Got one hubcap for it too. Rough, but, something. Plus I got some fun stuff to hang on the walls and some other misc bits, was a fun day.
I really like it. I had to climb up onto a wooden mezzanine that was partially collapsed to get it down, and I do not like heights. The owner of the yard was a little hesitant to sell it (which is his right, it's his stuff) but he did let me buy it and I'm going to hang that up in my workshop with pride. It's painted, but clearly not home-made, someone put some effort into that.
Got this in an auction last night and went to pick it up today, super cool. It's like a light-up art desk with sheets to go underneath that you can trace off of, never saw anything like it, made in 1961. Seems like there's a lot more hot rod related toys/stuff than there ever was for customs/customizing. Looks like whoever got this never used any of the original pencils, they had their own, so all the original ones are intact and unused. But it did get used, some kid's doodles and whatnot are all in there yet, that's almost the coolest part. I bet this was somebody's big Christmas or birthday present back in '61.
WOW, that brings back memories. Got one these for Christmas when I was about 10 years old. Had a blast with it...It actually helped me learn perspective.
Howza Bruthas! I scored this very nice 1954 Tonka Ford hi-way service truck! I had to replace the grille and siren. It is SANO!
Junkyard haul from the weekend. Mostly bits for the '50 Dodge I just bought, including a nice set of tall, skinny 15" whitewall tires, but I also found a not-terrible '49 Chevy license overrider and an old Honda tank that got flattened by some piece of equipment that I'm going to hang on the wall.
57 283. 69Z28 intake and valve covers. 65 dated 461 heads. I looked with a bore scope and saw domed pistons and looked like crosshatching on the cylinder walls. Craigslist find
Always fun to fill a milk crate at a swap meet. The NOS Headlight was the #1 automotive find, Cab Over or Pickup? I'm guessing DODGE.
