My daughter and SIL bought a farm a few years back. Hanging in the barn were a few old signs I was admiring on a visit there. For my birthday last year he gave me one of the signs, which was actually off of a semi trailer from the 60’s or so, as he knows I love this stuff, and will proudly display it in my shop. Well, he finally got around to pulling one part of the 2 part sign down. I threw it in the bed of my truck to take home today. The other half of the sign that simply reads “express”. Guess I’ll have to wait for that!
I think so. Those don't actually look pitted, they just look filthy, so I think they'd clean up. If you're looking to flip them, I don't think you'd make a ton, but cleaned up, a nice pair should bring at least $100 bucks if the glass is usable. Or, they're super cool (and period correct) for a custom project. Based on the set screw I can see in the one, it looks like they have a mount bracket still on them yet, which is another plus.
I’m kinda wondering if I could loose the mount and fab a swan neck or door frame style mount They look kinda cool
They are cool looking. The head is pretty heavy though, I think on a tall door mount, it might not hold its adjustment as well. On the Mercs they were always mounted to the front fenders. On the Edsel they typically were too although I think those were dealer installs so they could go anywhere really.
Picked these up the other day for what I think was a screaming good deal. Cities Service Oil bookends. Solid brass, about 3 pounds I think. Probably ‘40s or ‘50s, not really sure. If anyone knows anything more about them, feel free to chime in.
Some one had posted a windshield wiper scale . Here’s the one I have and the cabinet it is in. Along with pictures from the instructions
Our neighbors used to have a box elder tree and we'd get thousand of those damn things swarming outside. When the new owners moved in, we convinced them to remove the tree...
Many thanks to HAMBer @chubbie for selling me this wheel! Orphan single Fenton Hustler III. It happened to be a match for the '57s front spare wheel. Now I have a pair of fronts that closely match the 15x8.5s for my 55.
C57Dude glad to help out. I was interested in a match for the wheel, NO LUCK. So at least it's matched. wonder how many singles are out there?
Picked up a 55 1st series axle. From a “restored” truck the owner is doing a chassis swap. Been outside a few months. But turns. Planning on using the bendix brakes on the drop axle for my 49. I’ve got 5 lug 53/54 car brakes on the drop axle. The 49 has a 6 lug Dana 44 with 3:55s and a posi. So I’ll think I’ll keep the 6 lug. came with springs, frame hangers, steering box, links and shock mounts. That will get rid of my knee action shocks. The front and rear springs are the same width. So I might use the front hanger on the rear for a 1 1/2 drop. That’s a start. Or inch &1/2 less block needed. The springs are nice and clean so I’ll probably use them. My drop axle came with springs as well but one main leaf is kinked. the drop axles has 6 leafs. The truck has 9. Wonder how much drop that added?
Pretty sure the lower one is '62 Special/Skylark, might fit 61-63 as well, the other seems to be 52-54 Mercury.
Got this stuff at a local auction, along with a piece to flip that will more than cover the cost of all of the stuff I got. I'm generally not super into old magazines but these small format ones are pretty cool, and the deal was right.
And now for something completely different- all original 1968 - laugh in - sock it to me waste basket.
Ahh. Wastebaskets. My wife and I picked this up a few years back at a garage sale. It’s sitting right next to me , as we use it in our living room.
Opened up a wall in an old house. Found this 1919 penny in there. Gave it to a kid working on the job.
