I took the stock radiator down to the local shop today from my 50 mercury. Yep. It leaks bad in several places. Now I need a replacement. The radiator shop is looking to put a new core in it, but they don't know how much that will cost yet.

Where have you guys sourced radiators for flathead engines? Who offers good service? Any HAMBers yall can recommend?

  2. I have purchased from U.S Radiator on 3 different occasions,,,,Very good service excellant product at a big savings from the ones made in Memphis,,,guess who?

I called my local distributor for them. He failed to get back with me today, but according to the website, the radiator I need is $130 cheaper than the Griffin radiator through Summit.

    $130 is worth doing!

If your trying to keep your ride traditional, go with the recore. It's not going to be as expensive as you think.

Wait to find out what the recore will cost, but if it's too expensive I've had good luck with US Radiator as well.

I purchased a custom built brass radiator 5yr ago for my Olds powered 1930 roadster, since I boxed the 32 frame I felt it would not flex , so I mounted the rad solidly to the frame. I feel with a really solid frame& rad bolted without the springs or cushions, there is less chance for leaks at the soldered joints. I understand there are only a few companies that will build a brass rad anymore. the companies push aluminum since it is much cheaper to build. Greg

I forgot to mention US Radiator built the rad in the above post. I highly recommend them. Greg

I have two radiators made by Walker Radiator and both cars run cool and i have had no problems. I have not used a US Radiator but I have learned a long time sometimes it is better to pay a little more for something higher quality the first time then have to pay to do it again when something cheaper does not work.

  9. Any old time radiator shop can recore if you have good tanks.

    I wouldn't use a aluminum radiator in a traditional car,,but that's just me.

I have also used US Radiator and was pleased with the quality but I sold the car a year later so I can't comment on it's longevity.

I am one of those guys is sold on Walker Radiators, sure they are expensive but they last,,I am running one that is 18 years old and I have never had to do any repairs on it. HRP
