I am looking for a small heater for my 1948 Austin A40 sedan. I am not worried about actually heating the inside of the car, I am just looking for a small heater that I can use to defrost the windshield. I want to use a hot water heater and not an electrical heater. Anyone have a recommendation as to what to use or what not use?

Look into getting a heater from an Austin/Morris Mini say mid 70's or older. I'd sell you the 1 I have but then I'd have to find 1.

Check Mini Mania on their website minimania.com

The Model A Ford parts vendors did have a nice small heater that would fit just about anywhere. Try Snyders, Brattons and Macs auto parts to see if they still have something. There are usually lots of different kinds on ebay. With the problems obtaining products these days, the suppliers may be out of stock.

I agree with rv. Try to find a vintage heater. Long time ago, I used heaters from 70's era Mazda and Ford Courier pickups. They are relatively small and have metal housings that you can weld to and modify for defroster hookup.

I think we pulled a heater from under the seat on a Toyota Land Cruiser, probably for back seat passenger, but I am sure there are other ideas for small cores. We fitted in inside a vintage Haydee housing . On our 32 we used the same idea ,but hid in a vintage car radio box. Just for demisting a hidden 12v hair dryer works , a little noisy nut efficient.
