    Hello All

Im finally getting to start my model A project :)
I have a 28/29 model A straight axle that needs some TLC, so in your experiances what needs be replaced/reconditioned and such to make the axle and connecting hardware safe to use and drive :)

Hey Cyric, nice talking with ya at the Drags. Did you get a lot of ideas on how to set up the front end?

If you're going with a stock axle and split wishbones, you will need new shackles and a kingpin kit at the very least. And you'll probably want to upgrade to '37 and up style tie rod ends.

If your parts are worn, like a sloppy axle at the kingpins, it is usually easier to get another axle than bush and machine the bad one. Unless you're a machinist.

Parts like wishbones, axles, springs, and spindles usually only wear out if the previous owner didn't replace bushings/bearings until it was too late. Look for gouges and pits.

    Hay Alchemy

Good to have talked to you man and always nice to get ones ideas out for thoughts

And Ya got alot of new ideas, But for the moment i think im just going to go with a normal set-up and not get to fancy on my first go around as i am still getting the feel of all this...:)

The kingpins still seem verty sound so i hope they will only need replacments, but the shackles and perches seem perty worn out so replaing them is a must...

Anyone got a links for affordible parts.? and also for a DIY front end rebuild.
anything you have will help :)

i got some reading up to do :)

Thanks all i'll be back with more questions mos likly..LOL :(

Ford kingpins (are you using 37-40 or 41-48 spindles?) are available at lots of antique Ford parts houses. For shackles and perches you'll probably want some from a hotrod parts supplier like Pete and Jake's.

Check out roadsters.com for LOTS of links to parts suppliers. Personally I buy lots of original replacement parts from Mac's in New York.
