Well, grandma tells me that I get most things right, most of the time and to stop this kind of talk. Thanks granny! She is also saying that this computer IS going into the shop, probably next Monday. So, I better see how far we can get with these tail lights before everything goes black. Weren't we told that computers would make our lives easier?

  3. Looks good.....THANKS for sharing.............cw.

  4. As mentioned above- the color it actually was is left to memory,so that actually makes it easier as no one can then verify its being "wrong" any more than it was a "right" color choice...Ha!
I would bet that back in that day the amount of choices were a hell of a lot less than we have available today so that is also in your favor.....Probably more than likely was a blend of available color to achieve that just right look Jesse wanted that day!
I think all that was available in that timeframe was Nitro Laquer and Synthetic/ Alkallyd Enamel, that should give you a much smaller reference/base of available materials to search thru.

Jesse worked in a auto paint store and knows about all the technical stuff that would apply to the 40's-50's time frame. The car was done in nitro lacquer. There are NO color pics of the car. The one that's shown on Jesse's story thread was photo shopped by Rik. Jesse does say that that is close. I thought that because of the lack of a color pic that there would be a little slack. OOOH NOOO, Jesse isn't a feeble old man. He's animated and very sharp. So we keep "chopping wood" as they say. We'll be where we need to be when the time comes.

Picking your own color for the car would be so much easier.

I, for one, am glad you don't so things "the easy way". :D

Ok, I give up on this POS. We can talk but, we can't see. I don't know how long, a week? Maybe if I get one of those online postal accounts we can do this with snail mail. Oh wait... did I say online? Damn!

If I were able to post pics I would show 3 1/4" pieces of translucent red plastic stock stacked up and glued together. From this 3" x 5" stack comes the lens that is cut down and shaped and then snaps into the modified bumper gaurd.
There, this will work, right? HA, IT SUCKS!

why not make a wood buck the shape of the lens you want then heat and bend trans. red sheet over it to form the lens' , thats what I do, which I learned from lil mick who learned from winfield...so something must be right about it.

Well they do say that a picture is worth a thousand words. In place of the pics wer'e stuck with the words. So when the pics do come it will be easy, until then all we got is, they're different, on both accounts.

OK, DAMN THE TORPEDO'S AND FULL STEAM AHEAD! The service center has received the parts to fix my hard drive. I have no idea when it might be fixed or faith in the process. I've procured a lap top and I will try to see how far I can get in this configuration. I can't print out but I can post pic's (so far). So here we go.

Palle PM'd me awhile back to tell me that the template had slipped through the cracks and had been missed on the first attempt at mailing. I replied that it wasn't a problem and thanked him again for his help. While I'm waiting for this template another one comes in the mail. As I'm trying to figure out where this one came from I notice that it's post marked Burleson Tx. The only person I know from Burleson is Bill Dyson (48 Ragtop). My wife and I met Bill and Jean at the 2011 GNRS. They invited us down to their summer bash (the thing). We went summer before last. Lots of cool cars, friends and food. We had a great time and I got to look over Bill's playpen (shop). I got a chance to kinda take an inventory of what I could see. Lots and lots of cool stuff. I called Bill and sure enough he had seen the skirt posts and decided to surprise me and mail HIS template. Now I'm beginning to think that Bill has at least one of everything (except supercharger's). Thanks Bill, we can't have too much confirmation.

This is a look at what the template's show. Both template's are the same. So, as someone has said previously (somewhere), life is a period of adjustments.

As I said earlier this shows 3 1/4" translucent red plastic stock glued together. From this stack comes the lens that will eventually snap into the bumper guard hole.

We take this piece and make one like it without the hole. This is then glued to the bottom of the stack, which will snap into the guard.

  23. Jerry,
It was cool to talk to you today! Are you putting some type of waffled pattern in the inside of the lense? It would diffuse the light better.
