    :)My buddy had a 40 Ford coupe, we were in high school, he channeled it. We didn't have any fancy tools. He cut the floor with an ax, lowering the car body over the frame and welded all the sheet metal back in using Acetylene /Oxygen welding and coat hangers .It became a cherry red show car named ''Shazam'' . It could not pass the cigarette pack teat After he sold it, word was the new owner raised it up.:rolleyes: Who are these guys!!!:eek: pictured is labled

    I saw pics yesterday in a thread by Ric Hoving of detailed removing of the running boards on a 41 Ford. I sure he would be happy to post them for you.

    :)I my mind's eye I see a length of 1x4 tubing (available?) This looks as tricky as the grill. On down the road! :eek::D

    HOLY SMOKES! Everybody take a deep breath. While Jesse's car was more detailed than Jr's, the one thing that he left unfinished was the hole that was left after the running boards were removed. I guess in SoCal it didn't make a differance with wet streets. With the door shut there isn't a big opening. I could make a abreviated piece that could fill that gap, but it wouldn't be Jesse's car.

    My 41 with running boards taken off. We built a box out of 16 ga from the front the rear and it's all moulded in. We started with a straight piece under the door then bent another piece to a 90 which was welded to the 1/4 and to the piece under the door. Next it was closed up in the back. Never tried it but could probably lift the car with a jack under it. I have a question. It looks as though the bottom hinge was moved down, is that right? If so why?

    ------------------HOME WORK ASSINGMENT FOR EXTRA CREDIT-------------------

    I asked Jesse about this "thing" thats hanging down below the front bumper. I thought it was the oversize radiator that he talks about. No, he says that it's an air scoop to force air into the radiator at speed. He say's he made it out of a drip pan that was in the refrigerator at the shop. THAT'S WHERE THAT THING WENT! The space between the bumper gaurds (see post #492) is 18". Any way, I havn't been able to find anything like this. I could get a old galvanized farm stock tub or something like it. I would like to find the genuine article if posssible.
    The winner gets a signed, framed, color thank you pic of the coupe when it's done.

  16. Must have been a pretty common thing back then. Rik just posted about similar scoops on the Bob Gill '36 and the Calori coupe on the Jack Calori coupe thread.

    I just threw out about a dozen of those things! Now that I think about it they were 18-3/4"

    How do you get a "soft" peak on the hood? You start with a razor sharp one, and soften it.

    :)Weld a rod in the splice grove , then fill with glass mix bondo? :cool::eek::D

    Yup, thats one way. In this case with some slight warpage a skim coat solved two problems with one swipe. Build up with multiple coats to get coverage. Cut everything down severley with the 9" grinder. Leaving that build up in the center.

    How about a wooden block wraped with sandpaper, block routered to the form wanted to finish?

    I like the masking tape method. Put your straight line down with tape. Sand one side until the tape starts to fray slightly (and evenly). Do the other side the same way. It works everytime. Laser straight. I should have gotten a set of pics but, I didn't.

    :)Jer ,your getting eager to get it done so you can get on to the next one,,,,:D Is there a different mind set when working on pieces of a car away from the main body?. just asking , :) And are there lights/clear lenses in the front bumper guards, like the tail lites?

    I found this amongst the old family photo's. My dad was a Ford dealer. It's a bit prophetic, don't you think?

    Now if you hadn't shown the back of the photo I was gonna guess that it was taken in the early 50' based on the jivin outfit you were wearing. To answer your question- yes.

    Like Curly said, there's just one thing (when doing a lot of welding). CORROSION PROTECTION. Sometimes you have to corrosion protect your way out of a hole. That makes a HUGE differance in the longevity of these Kustom's.
