Thanks LB. This is going to be the type of post that you're going to see, it's a way to tell myself what's needed for parts and other things.

My wife had her knee replaced a year ago. She had to do it without heavy meds because they make her sick. Tough recovery, sleeping was a problem for quite a while. You'll get there but it's not a race. Best wishes for a good recovery.

It's time for a check in. Yup, Dave your right, I've got a state of the art knee, but the opioids laid me away. Debilitating acid reflux, dry mouth, constipation, weakness. I've just had my best day, this morning, through all this I've discovered that Tylenol extra strength will do just fine.

My new knee wants to go, so I think I can do a full round of therapy today, well see. As always, many thanks for you thoughts and prayers.

For some relief I discovered by accident that sitting at night watching TV eating a handful of cashews or popcorn will "get things moving again" the next morning must be all fiber LOL.

It's check in time. The knee is doing great, I'm trying to catch up and keep even with it. MY first son Todd has moved in with us temporarily and it's nice to have him here. One of the things that we needed help with was two new phones that we now have. My wife is still having these "pop up" headaches. My two week anniversary for my knee op was Wednesday the 21'st. I've been following orders about not driving and using my new (crutch) cane.

Last Tuesday my wife called her neurologist (sick joke) to tell them what her night had been like, she was told that she should go to the E.R. immediately. They said that there was a good chance that she has had a minor stroke, she went back and told Todd, what they had said and away they went. Poor old dad, that is now infirm, was left wondering what happened.

I'm sitting in my chair wondering when I would get a call telling me what's going on. I pick up my new phone to call son Todd, and for some strange reason I can't get it to work, it's "locked up". I'm realizing that if I can't call out, they can't call in. This is not good. The more I think about it the more alarmed I get.

I realize that the only choice I have is to "jump" in the truck and head for the ER, at all possible dispatch. My son hasn't gotten covid, or the vaccine, and when I arrive, I have to take a bit to find him in the now (almost full) ER parking lot. He decided that he would not go in with his mother because of the (now growing) covid case load that they now have.

He's sitting in the car with the ac on and doesn't see me walk up on him until I knock on the windshield. He rolls down his window, and with a shocked look on his face exclaims "what do you think you're doing?" I explain that my phone no longer is operable, and this was the only choice I had. I tell him that I'm going to go and see "mom" and find out what's going on, and I'll return as soon as I can.

The entrance to the ER is probably 400 feet from where I'm at, and I "take off", as I normally do going a little over the speed limit because of my six foot five inch frame, to find that I didn't put the cane in the truck (oh that). I get to the entrance realizing that this knee really is working great, I get a mask, and go up and locate Mom. She's waiting for the doc to come in and start the evaluation, and wants to know what I'm doing there, and where my cane is.

The upshot of all this is that my wife was fine (again), I went back and got my son, and we got some lunch. I took him back, went up to find out that they are releasing my wife, and came home to await on their arrival. I've never fooled around with that cane again, and this thing is feeling better and better, oh, and that new phone had a fifty dollar bill that needed to be paid.

    Thanks for the support.

  10. So glad your wife ended up being ok and that your knee is exceeding expectations! Dang ol phones....I think they are just doing this to us older types on purpose to make us think we are losing our minds. LOL

Ok, all is good. The knee rules, all the surrounding tissue wants an explanation about what's happened, but the knee is good. I'm discovering that my stomach won't tolerate even the non opioids very well. I tried just two aspirin last night, and I think I will eventually be able to make it work.

I lost about 20 pounds, and as I get my stomach happy again that will be the key to my getting back where I was.

Well, I'm sailing along. I've gone from home visits by the physical therapist to the visits at the pt office.
He hurt me by manipulating my new knee cap. I didn't go back for the next two appointments this week and called to have them added on at the tail end of this program, to give me a little time to heal from that experience. We'll talk about it when I show up next week.

Sounds like your therapist is from the Helga's House of Pain Massage School.

No pain no gain. The sooner you work thru it and get relief. Been there and done it both ways. Good Luck Frank

This knee is an amazing piece of work. All the physical therapy has really produced some great results. This knee really thrives on it. The doctor thinks the left knee is next, and he may be right, but that's waay down the road, and where I had reservations about even thinking about it, this experience has really changed that.

I'm thinking it's time to consider what's next as the idea of life returning to some kind of normalcy is looming on the horizon. I think I need to get son Dan on board with the finishing of the JL coupe.

Well, I need to report that this new knee is influencing all the rest of the parts in a way that's just the opposite of what the old knee did. Instead of "gimpin" around, I'm thinking of all things that need to be done around here. There's the new flag pole that needs to go up, the shop that needs to be cleaned up and tools put away. OH, and the thing that lives in the shop too. I think a weather change is just what the doctor ordered. we'll see.

I've woken up and when I do (at this time of night), it gives me time uninterrupted to analyze all kinds of things, but these days it will usually get around to the knee. It's been a little over seventy days. The unexpected positives were a delightful surprise, and they have changed my out look on several things. I've discovered that physically I'm feeling like this is a new opportunity to have a fresh start, and at 79 (in august), a way to get set up for the last run.

Then I catch myself and think of Gene Winfield. With the weather cooling down and my "forays" out in the shop building on each other we'll see what the "Kustom car God" will have.

I've been trying to clean up the shop, but with an ongoing shelving project by my oldest son, it's pretty slow. I'm going to get some pics to show you where I'm at.
