Projects Recreation; Wisconsin M S C modified circa 1958

Driver Billy Schwister. F E power. Finished 2nd in points overall, Four 1/4 mile tracks. Quite an accomplishment what with the S B C engine takeover was complete in 1958. 13 fast times at Hales Corners track. I have the rear axle assembly & front axle assembly finished. Waiting for delivery of mandrel bent 2 1/4" round tubing to arrive. Yellow model by Phil, Milwaukee.

 

Mopar tube front axle widened 4". Radius rods just like the originals. Solid adjustable rod ends. 35 Ford 1 ton spring mounts. The stock curve outward allows for a longer spring & lots of turning radius without the tire rubbing the radius rods.

 

Boyce in Indianapolis bent the rails and rear bumper for me. Very fast service.

 

I built the rear frame section first on the center of the frame jig. Then transfered it to the makeshift jig over the rear axle. Seat mount is done. Very sturdy. I used 7/8" OD X .156" wall 4130. I have lots of it in stock to build hair pin radius rods.

 

Very nice, will follow this build.

 

Installed seat and rear roll bar. Installing shocks with F 1 mounts. Won't be using these wheels.

 

Hidralic hand clutch. Left foot brake.

 

Right side bars are done. Right side engine mount is done. 4 shock mounts installed.

 

Got the front roll bar almost ready. I won't install it until after the body is installed. I will have to shorten it some when I fit it to the body. The body will have a slight forward rake.

Mounted the 5 gallon fuel cell, fuel filter and battery. Started to run brake lines. Painted trans.

 

these types use a real trans ,not just in and out like the smaller ones?-very nice!
